Maytag Dishwasher
|
Maytag Dishwasher I am writing in regards to my Maytag dishwasher. We bought the dishwasher in the winter of 2002 from Lowe's in Danvers, Massachusetts. We spent just about $400.00 on the dishwasher. Reason for purchasing this Maytag brand was specifically because of the name and the rave reviews that Maytag seems to receive. We have never purchased any extended warranties as they are to costly and should not need to be purchase on a 4 1/2 yr. old appliance. We had a serviceman to our house on 6/28/05 to correct the control panel. The dishwasher would not run. The charge on the visit alone was $140.00, that was not covering the cost for the replacement part. I came to learn that specific Maytag dishwashers were being recalled due to a problem with the heating component. About a month ago. mid May 07, my husband and I noticed that the heating device was not turning off. We would have to open the door to the dishwasher to allow the heat out. Our counter was extremely hot and having 2 young children we were getting nervous. We called Maytag to see if our model was listed under the recall models. Unfortunately it was not. I contacted Maytag again and explained the situation....they told me that they would have to charge us $100 just to send out a service repairman....that charge would not include any repair cost or parts cost. My husband, who is a firefighter, took the dishwasher out only to find a large burn hole located on the bottom of the dishwasher with a freyed electrical cord. Since then the dishwasher will not run correctly, it sporatically stops and starts, it will not rinse, the soap dispenser will not release the soap, the dishes are not cleaning and the control panel will not light up to indicate that the cycle is complete. I have emailed Maytag and have spoken to customer service about this situation. The gentleman I spoke with spoke to his supervisor who told me that I could get a 10% discount on a new dishwasher. I told them that that was unacceptable for an appliance that isn't even 5 years old. I told them that I wanted a new dishwasher...that was out of the question. So I then asked if I could directly speak to his supervisor and he said he is instructed to talk to him and then give the information to me...I told him that was ridiculous and that I wanted to speak with the supervisor. He said I could not. I asked for Corporates phone number, he would not issue me that, however he did issue me the address and told me that I could write a letter. I am extremely frustrated and disappointed that the cost to repair my dishwasher would actually equal up to the amount it would cost for a new dishwasher, which I don't want to do and can't afford to. Could you direct me to what my next step would be?
