Complaint about Fry's Electronics

My complaint is about Fry's electronics.

On 4/18/07 I purchased a GPS unit from the Fremont location. I was not told

that there was a restocking fee at the time of purchase. The unit was

removed from the cabinet by the store employee and we walked to the front of

the store to the register. I returned to the store to exchange the product

for a more expensive model. At that time I was informed of the restocking

fee and was told that there is no manual in the box. The box had no manual

from the store and I was made to feel like it was impossible and that I was

acting maliciously. I basically felt embarrassed to be there as if I did

something wrong. I don’t feel that was a good thing to do to a long time

customer. I was told that in order to exchange it and buy the more

expensive model, I had to pay $40 to return the unit. This process took my

entire lunch time and cost me hours lost at work (about 45 min.)

I would like to have my $40 back. This would leave me very cautious, but

I'd remain a customer.

I sent a complaint to the better business borough on 5/21/07 and have not

heard a word from Fry's yet. I can only guess that they don't care that

they have lost a customer that made $10,000 in purchases per month. My

business has been redirected to other company's that are not affiliated with

Fry's in any way.
