AAA Membership (GONE BAD)
|
AAA Membership (GONE BAD) I signed up for the Premier auto club card, for myself and my wife. The sales people were absolutely wonderful.I was very happy that I was now covered by AAA. I had a day off so I had my car serviced and smoged. It was going to take all day,but that was OK. I get a call from work. They want me there right away.Since my car was in the shop I asked my neighbor if he could run me to work.We left his house and started for my work, and his car quit running approx fifty miles from home. He was a AAA member so he called and was informed that his account had expired and that they would only tow the vehicle seven miles. When he informs me,I said I'm a member and I will call to get the car towed, since he was taking me to work and he was stuck here only because of me. The AAA brochure states that they will tow a vehicle if you are a passenger in the vehicle. I called and explained my plight and was informed that someone else had called on that vehicle and their card would only allow the car to be towed seven miles.I explained that I was a passenger in the car and was using my card aquired approximately one month earlier. This created some confusion, and I could see I was getting nowhere so I thanked the lady and hung up. I then called back and a very courteous gentleman answered.(The previous lady was also courteous)I again started to explain that I needed a vehicle towed and he informed me that there were two previous calls on this vehicle.I stated I knew that. The owner had made one call and I made the second. Now the subject changes. He informs me that the vehicle had been purchased in the last few days.I told him that I knew that, but what does that have to do with getting the car towed. He then informs me that they have a policy of not towing a vehicle that has been purchased within the last five days.I said, that would have been a nice piece of information to put on the brochure. By now I had reached such a high level of frustration I wanted to squeeze his neck, and or, to perform bodily harm.I wound up actually screaming at him,and finally asked for a supervisor. Twenty minutes later a very courteous lady comes on the phone and says she is the supervisor, and how may she help me.She is really very nice and so I decided to be nice back.I explained the situation again and she tells me about the policy.I'm mad,I start yelling at her and finally hang up.I was so mad I told her to cancel my policy. She informed me very courteously that she could not do that.(Seemed to me she could not do anything) I then politely as I could screamed back at her that she was a supervisor and as a representative of the company, she could cancel the policy. Next day I went down to the AAA office here in town and explained how rude I had been and said I was sorry.I explained that I had canceled my policy and would like to reinstate the policy. They looked it up and said it had not been canceled, but they would put a note on the computer that it was not to be canceled. I said before we do that, can I have a list of exceptions so I wont have to go through this again. This brought a supervisor into the picture. She informed me that they do not have a list of exceptions. I explained that they most certainly do.I showed her the 800 number on my card, and suggested she call it because everyone there has a book that has all those exceptions listed. I further explained that if I had been provided those exceptions prior to becoming a member,I would not have had this big argument with all the employees because I would have known all the rules, and I could live with that.During an emergency is not the time to discover there are exceptions. End result, I handed them my card and left. I am so upset with AAA,that I will probably get mad again if they send me any money back.I just want to be done with them, and the price of membership is a small price to pay. I guess I should be thankful that they showed their courteous hand before I or my wife were stuck some place and really, really needed help. AAA,I thank you.
