Circuit City Complaint

Circuit City Complaint

On 5/15/07 Purchased two computers from Circuit City on Whiteford Road in York, Penna.

I initially declined the “extra protection” plans.

However, the salesman said he could get me 12 months with no payments or interest due (see bottom of sales slip). So, I accepted. He also talked me into the “in-home installation” so that everything would “run correctly”.

Costs: $ 118.74 protection plan 1

$ 229.99 in home set up 1

$ 115.00 in home set up 2

$ 180.49 protection plan 2

The “installation” took about 40 minutes and half of the things that were promised to me by the salesman (wrapping of cables, etc.) were never done.

I had problems with both units from the start. Between 5-15-07 and 6-22-07, I made 23 phone calls to the Whiteford Road store. Every time I asked to speak to the computer department, I was put on hold and no one ever picked up. Every time I asked to speak to the store manager, he/she was never there. On 18 of these calls, I asked that my call be returned. Not a single one was.

I therefore want a refund of the above amounts. A service plan where you can never get to talk to a technician, let alone see one, is worthless.

I was promised two rebates. One of $ 50 and one of $ 40. The $ 50 one was through the computer manufacturer and I received this. The second one was through Circuit City and was on a video card. Shortly after I sent everything in for the rebate, I was informed that I didn't qualify for it because I had returned the video card. The video card in question clearly shows on the sales receipt. I have the box it came in, from which I got the bar code to send for the rebate. The card clearly shows being in the computer on every “what's in your computer” program that I run.

An interest charge of $ 35 suddenly appeared on my record with Circuit City. This led to a series of back and forth e-mails (copies are attached and they must be read from the bottom up). Although they agreed to remove the charge, they never did. Instead they added and subtracted convoluted and totally irrelevant numbers to the account.

I paid the correct balance on the account omn 7/17/07 so, even though I spent a considerable amount of money for the “extras” in order to qualify for the 12 month no payment/no interest program, I never got the benefit of it.

It's my opinion that this merchant has consistently and intentionally practiced fraud by offering services that they have no intention of providing, promising rebates that they have no intetion of delivering, and offering interest/payment free "deals" that are neither.

I have ALL records and will provide them upon request. These including the following:

1-The store receipt showing the interest/payment free offer, the rebates, and the charges for the protection and installation plan.

2-A series of e-mails with Circuit City's "customer service" telling me why payments were required and interest was being charged on a payment/interest free offer.

3-All of the documentation on the refused rebate.

4-Copies of letters sent to the Circuit City corporate office, the "manager" of the York store and the salesman who set the whole thing up. All of these letters were completely ignored.
