Visa Mileage Plus

I was solicited by Visa to upgrade to a platinum card and for my $140 annual fee ($80 more than standard card) I would receive an annual companion ticket.

When I tried to use the companion certificate for a trip from Oakland, CA to Orlando, FL I was told that the fare for two tickets using my companion certificate was $564. When I requested the published fare, she quoted me a fare of $566 for the two of us. So my companion certificate was worthless; and if I were to use it, I would forfeit 5,000 + frequent flyer miles, since I would be considered the "free companion."

When I complained, Visa blamed United and United blamed Visa and nothing was done. I feel tricked and I want everyone to be aware that this is the current Visa policy. Fran

i also just had a terrible experience with the mileage plus visa people. i am canceling my card of 10 years immediately.
