GE Water Softener model number GXSF39B

GE Water Softener model number GXSF39B

I purchased this water softener at Home Depot.

I installed it in February 2002.

I had to have it repaired in November 2003.

Now again I do not have soft water.

I am going to have to have it repaired again.

I have no way of contacting anyone in the know at Home Depot.

I have sent a complaint to GE we will see what comes of it.

I have the exact same softener and I too have the very same problem. I have been fighting this piece of crap softener for about 6 years now and have discovered the flaw. The two O-rings around the shaft swell and grip the shaft so greatly that it causes it to stick. However, the clocking device on top continues to spin, torque-deflecting the shaft, until the limit switch snaps into the groove, which tells the controller that it has reached the proper position. But in reality, the disc valve is not in the correct location to cause the brine solution to be drawn into the unit. It's just a small amount of angular deflection, but it is just enough to cause it to not work. GE probably knows the problem, but is unwilling to update the thousands of our water softeners with a fix. Perhaps a Class Action Lawsuit is in order?
