In January of 2007, I visited The One hair salon in Lebanon, Ohio. Prior to

my appointment, my boyfriend and I had lunch plans with his mother. By the time lunch was finished, it was nearing the time of my appointment and I didn't want to be late. My boyfriend said he would just come along, and I assured him, having this type of procedure done on my hair before, it

shouldn't be more than an hour and a half or so.

My usual stylist works at another salon, but as she was unavailble, I decided to give The One a chance. I have a very hectic work sched. and this seemed to be the perfect time to go, because my boyfriend and I had an engagment to attend in Columbus, Ohio. We had planned to leave later that evening.

I arrived at the salon, and we greeted by my stylist, Tiffany. I explained to her that I had been having my naturally light brown/blonde hair coloredn dark brown professionally for over a year, and I wished to go back to my natural color. (My hair is a few inches past my shoulders) I brought a photo along to act as an example, though I was well aware my hair would not resemble the photo exactly, I did realize that Tiffany was not my usual

stylist so unlike Becky, I couldn't just tell her verbally what I wanted. Tiffany seemed confident that she could produce this look for me, and she left to mix the color.

Sitting there in the chair waiting for her, I felt the sudden urge to run away. It is my deepest regret that I did not follow my instincts and leave then and there.

She came back out with the color. She began to bleach out my dark hair, which I felt was normal. It took a very long time, and she started with my roots and then put more bleach on the ends of my hair. The two stylists

working next to her asked her a few times what she was doing, and I started to get the feeling she may be doing something incorrectly. Since I know nothing about hair coloring, I decided to I was probably just being

paranoid.

I sat with the bleach on my hair for about 45 mins to an hour. At this point, I had been at the salon for over 2 hours, and I was feeling pretty bad for my boyfriend, who had been patiently waiting all that time.

Then, Tiffany proceeded to put on the color. It was a Saturday, and it was about 5:45 or so. (My appt. had started at 3.) At this point, Tiffanys mother was waiting outside to pick her up and I could sense she was suddenly

in a hurry to get me out. She put the color over my bleached hair, and had me sit under the dryer for about 20 mins. At this point I was the last customer in the salon. Jessica, another stylist who has done my hair in the

past, my brothers, and my mothers, also seemed to be hanging around. I now believe she was waiting to see what sort of disaster my hair would look like.

20 mins later, Tiffany rinsed my hair out. She was very careless about it, leaving the back of my shirt totally soaked, and the floor a mess. Jessica hovered around, watching and looking at the color. Once Tiffany began to dry my hair, I could tell something was very wrong. By the time my hair was

fully dried, it was bright orange with yellow roots! I was devestated. All

the while Tiffany was still rushing, telling me it would look better as time

went on and it would fade. (Because pale orange and yellow hair is SO MUCH

more attractive than bright orange and yellow hair?)

I was so shocked I couldn't bring myself to say anything at that time,

because I didn't want to cry there and embarass my boyfriend. I paid $92 and

left over 3 hours later with orange hair.

I immediatly began to cry upon leaving the salon. My boyfriend was very

reassuring about it, saying we'd get it fixed etc. He even offered to cancel

our trip, but I refused, because we had engagements we could not cancel.

When I got home and looked at it in the better lighting of our guest

bathroom, I totally lost it. I did my best to calm down, and decided I could

get it fixed in Columbus, because I couldn't go to work looking that way, my

boss would have sent me home. (And no, I'm not kidding about that at all.)

My manager told me I should have it fixed before our meeting took place. I

can't say I blame her. The hair color The One gave me would have only been

acceptable on a cartoon character, and even then, not so much acceptable as

slightly believable.

The following morning I made a few calls and found a salon that sounded good

to me. This is because when I described my situation to the girl on the

phone she said they would look at it and then tell me what they could do. No

lofty promises were made, and I appreciated that. This salon was Fiesta

Salon in Columbus, Ohio. When I arrived, my stylist was Michelle. Michelle

was honest with me and very sympathetic. I felt like she actually cared

about my problem, and she was never rushed or dishonest with me. Once I

described what had happened, she knew exactly what errors Tiffany had made.

She merely told me she would do her very best, and prior to my arrival had

discussed with her manager the most cost effective and least damaging

procedure for my already damaged hair. She told me exactly what she was

doing, and explained to me at this point, damage was certain, but she would

do her best to avoid it as much as possible.

Michelle began working on my hair at 9:30am and did not finish until 3:00pm.

I left the salon with dark hair, and some lighter highlights, and a protein

treatment. I lost a lot of hair throughout the procedure, and Michelle even

cut out a piece of the offending color. She and the manager both were

shocked at the orange color, and stated they could not believe I was allowed

to leave The One looking that way. Michelle knew I was not from the area, so

she also wrote down her name, and the colors she used on my hair. (Something

my normal salon was rude about giving me and refused to surrender when I

called eariler that day.)

I've been using protein treatments and deep conditioning treatments every

day since the incident which took place about a week or so ago. I can

finally say my hair feels less and less like a brillo pad each day. I love

my hair, and I'm frequently complimented on it, so I was very worried my

hair would end up fried. It takes a lot more work now to make it look

normal, but I've been somewhat sucessful with enough products. I also cut

about 2 inches off myself, because the ends were just beyond repair.

So there's the back story. Now for the fun part. I called The One salon

twice, and asked to speak with the owner Jack Brooks. Mr. Brooks told me

during the first phone call to come in and they would have a look at it. I

explained to him I'd already had it fixed due to my business meeting in

Columbus, at the request of my manager. Also, I didn't want Tiffany or any

other stylist he handpicked based on their "talent" to come near my hair,

which suffered two double process bleach jobs within two days. I'm lucky to

even HAVE hair at this point. I told him due to the mistakes Tiffany made,

my hair was totally fried and destroyed when I left. Not to mention the main

issue of it being orange.

He went on to rudely tell me that anytime you go from dark to light hair

color, damage will ensue. I replied that I was well aware of this, having

done it before, and that the damage, while substaintial, was not my main

problem with the salon. My natural hair color is not orange, or anything

close to it.

I told him I didn't feel I should have to pay for a botched job. I paid $100

to have my hair repaired at Fiesta, and both my stylist there and the

manager said that the orange color was due to the fault of the stylist and

her lack of knowledge as to what she was doing, and the fact that she left

the bleach on for way too long.

That call ended on an unhappy note, with him telling me to come into the

salon when I got back into town Monday.

When I got back into town Monday, the more I thought about it, the more I

didn't want to drive 45 mins out of my way from home only to have him tell

me I wasn't getting the money back, because he didn't seem to want that at

all. As mentioned before, my hair cannot be chemically processed for at

least 3 months now, so there's nothing to be done for me in that regard. I

also think it looks great now, and much better than I imagined it ever

looking after such a mess.

I called the salon, and of course, he wasn't there Monday. Funny, he'd told

me to come in on a day when I found out the salon wasn't even open, they

only have a receptionist working that day.

I called the next day. Jack got on the phone and this time was even more

rude. He said he didn't have time for me, and that the salon didn't "do"

refunds. I explained to him..my hair was ORANGE and very damaged when I left

his salon. He simply said "well?" and that sent me over the edge. "Well?" I

said. "Is that all you have to say about this?" and he replied "I'm too busy

for this, I dont have time to deal with you." He then hung up on me.

I was furious and immeditaly reported him to the BBB. His "wife" who must

also work there called me later. I was confused as to why she was calling

back. She said she was going to take care of it. This did not mean refunding

my money. She went on to say that her husband had been busy with a client

and he hung up on me because I was "going on and on and wouldn't stop

talking." So apparently she called just to be as rude as her husband was,

and get in the last word. I told her that since they refused to refund me, I

was taking it on to the BBB. Her response? "You do what you have to do and

I'LL do what I have to do."

So. Since she so invitingly encouraged me to do what I have to do, I feel it

is my duty to expose this place for what it is, and warn would be clients of

the terrible customer service and the inept knowledge of the staff. I'm sure

there may be some decent stylists there, but I certainly didn't get one of

them. I'll be posting this anywhere and everywhere that I can. I don't want

anyone to have to deal with what dealt with. At this point, I don't care if

The One provided a service that caused your hair to dry and style itself

perfectly every day. Due to the poor customer service, lack of ownership of

their damaging mistakes, unprofessional actions, dishonesty, and blatant

disregard for their clients, I will never go there again. This story I've

shared has caused several of my friends and my mother to cancel their

appointments.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and may none of you share this

terrible experience.
