H&R Block Error

H&R Block Error

H&R Block in the Galleria Mall, Poughkeepsie, NY.

In 2003, because of changes in circumstances, I decided not to do my own taxes, but to go to the "tax professionals" at H&R Block. In 2003 I turned 59 !/2 and I collected retirement income from IBM. Last week I received a nice letter from New York State informing me that i owed them $559.16 (102.16 in interest) because of an error in my 2003 return. In NY, the first 20,000 in collected retirement benefits are tax exempt after you reach 59 1/2. H&R Block's program nor their representative caught this (they allowed payments to be tax deductible before I became 59 1/2).

I went to the office and they will refund the interest charged. This is unacceptable. They should make good on the entire amount since they had a gross error in their program and their representation as "tax professionals". They shouldn't be charging over $200 to do returns if they can't get something simple like this correct.
