Attached is an email I received from a restaurateur in Park City. Billing

themselves as the most romantic dinner in Utah, I decided to give it a try.

The basic idea was to get in a sleigh with 32 other diners and be pulled up

the mountain over 1000 ft. vertical up to a remote "yurt", which is

basically a tent. Once there, a gourmet dinner is served with a concert

pianist playing a baby grand piano.

On the way up the mountain, the snow cat got stuck at the steepest part of

the trip. There we sat, on a 45 degree incline in near zero degree

temperatures with no communication from the operator what was going on.

After a while a second snow cat came along and hooked up to the snow cat

that was stuck. Unfortunately, this snow cat also became stuck.

So we waited, and waited and waited. All the while our seatbelts holding us

from falling into the people on the downslope side of the sleigh. Even

though I dressed for extreme cold, without being able to move I was still

freezing. After about 45 minutes a third snow cat arrived and a winch was

connected to the stuck machines and we were pulled up to a point above the

drop.

The whole ordeal lasted about an hour, and the time spent traveling up to

the yurt about 25 minutes more. All in all I was out in the cold for an hour

and a half.

The staff offered an apology and then promptly began to serve dinner.

Notwithstanding the snowcat ordeal, I would say that the menu was less than

spectacular. The cheese course was especially lacking and the almond cake

desert with almond ice cream was plain at best.

After the meal, the staff presented the bill for beverages to those who had

ordered wine and/or drinks. Then they went on to inform these customers that

the restaurant was giving a $50.00 credit for beverages. Since I elected not

to consume alcohol I did not receive a credit.

I thought this was unfair and I wrote an email to the proprietor asking for

a credit. I do believe that this gesture would suffice for an apology for

the inconvenience. Unfortunately the proprietor took offense with my email

and has elected to behave cantankerously.

I am forwarding her email to you. The name of the restaurant is The Viking

Yurt. I would recommend that any skiiers going to Utah to know of my

experience before they choose to take a chance on The Viking Yurt.

Best Regards,

Michael

>My goodness, I would have been happy to give you a $50 credit which was the

>instructions my staff got. I did not know that some of the people up there

>did not have a beverage bill. All your threats compels me to tell you to

>post away. That was truly the wrong approach Mr. Baril. You experienced

>something that has never happened in 7 years to us. I read the first half

>or your e-mail and would have done a credit without even hesitating. The

>second of your e-mail completely changed my mind. Now that you gotten so

>nasty and threatening, I find that I don't want to. 90 minutes is a

>complete over exaggeration, dangling from a seatbelt is an over

>exaggeration. "All over the internet" will be a good project for you. A

>simple, civil phone call or an e-mail stating true facts would have gotten

>you much farther.

>Try again if you want a $50 credit, Mr. Baril I find your approach to be

>most appalling. What happened to you was completely unlucky and has never

>happened before - it was out of our control as the snowmakers had made of

>mountain of snow that day that we could not get through. How you choose to

>over-exaggerate and write is completely within your control.
