McAfee virus scan / rebate customer service

In September, I purchased the latest version of McAfee Virus Scan. It came with a $20 mail-in rebate. I sent in all of the required information and received an e-mail letting me know they got it all. The status, as of October 13, 2006, showed my “rebate was valid” and I should allow 30 days for the receipt of my check. It is now, January 16, 2007 and I have yet to receive my check. I have called 3 times to their customer service and all their “outsourced, overseas” call center can do is make excuses. After my second call, the status showed that my check was printed on January 2 and lists a check number. It has been 2 weeks since the check was supposedly printed, so I called again today and was told that I have to wait 15 days for the check in the mail. ??? Where are they mailing it from, Antarctica?


Why does it take a company 3 months to process a rebate? When I called today, the person I spoke to spouted something about terms of the promotion. I said to him, “the terms of the promotion stated 8 weeks after you receive my valid submission. The rebate website stated on October 13 that I would receive my check in 30 days! It has been 3 months!” All he could say is that they “had some problems”.


Well, I will no longer being using McAfee for my virus scan. It has been uninstalled from all of my computers and replaced with a more reliable program from a company with a more responsive customer service. If a company offers a rebate, they need to follow through with providing that rebate in the time promised. I bought their product. The least they can do is offer some customer service!
