Sony and Strauss Photo Technical Service Ref: To Charge by Strauss Photo Technical Service 1240 Mt. Olivet Road N.E Washington, D.C. 20002 Phone #(202)529-3200 Fax #(202)526-6465 I purchased a Sony model DSC-P92 serial #1603142 from a Walmart store in Rogers, Arkansas on July 29 2004 for $364.52 Sometime later it malfunctioned, the lens would not go in and out when turning the camera on or off. I was unable to tell if it was my fault or a defect. I called a Sony hot line and was given a price to repair it. I was also given a phone and address of a authorized repair shop. The choice was based on the fact that I didn’t keep the purchased receipt or package to return it to Sony. When I went to the authorized repair shop, I asked them to look at it and give me the price to repair it. If he would have told me that there was estimate charge I would have just walked out the door and spent nothing. After the repair person took my camera into the back and examined it, I was told the price to fix it would be a fixed amount. He said that he would charge my credit card the first sum now and when he was ready to ship it to me by UPS he would charge my credit card the rest of the fixed sum. It was questionable at the time, because of the cost. The camera has no sentimental value to me. So it was just a mater of cost. I can purchase a new camera for about the same price that they now want to charge me for the repair. The original price was $135.00 and I would have paid that much. They called and told my wife that they wanted more money to fix it. When told of the new price and I said that I didn’t want the camera fixed at that price. I was told at time that the $65.00 was for the time to look at the camera. The camera is not in the same shape it was given to them. I have just decided never to buy a Sony product ever again. Thomas
Rockville, Maryland 20851-1711 After some one else sued the Sony Electronics for a defective camera I got a check for the $65.00 from Sony but the camera gave me less than a year of service and I still will never buy anything from Sony even their security cameras, which I buy for a security company...$364.52 wasted. They don't care one bit a bout their reputation, its all about their past not their future. I understand that they have a new CEO that just does not understand these complaints will hang around forever and that consumers now have more savvy about looking up product information and reputation before they put out money for big ticket items. no no no no to Sony. China may have lead paint and Korea may be hard to get along with, but apparently Sony a Japanese's company has gone back to selling cheap trinkets. I am the original complainer and still will not buy any Sony Equipment or recommend it to anyone that I deal with.. I have disposed of the Sony Camera in question and have been given two non-Sony cameras.. Both are excellent.
