Dex Media phone book

Dex Media phone book

I just purchased my Real Estate business in September. In November, I responded to an ongoing ad that was in the Dex phone book. I spent quite a bit of time trying to understand the existing advertising and finally agreed to the lowest price ad available. This phone call was recorded. I went home that night and told my husband about the conversation and he asked me if I didn’t have a free complementary listing. I told him I did not know and agreed that would do me fine. I called the next day and explained that I thought there was a free listing and asked if this was correct. The agent said yes and then I said that I wanted to cancel my advertising and take the free listing. He said he could not do that because he had pulled strings to get me in before the deadline. I argued and said that I was canceling this advertising. I called again after receiving an invoice with the details and he said he did not have time to deal with me and then said good bye. I called once again stating that I was not going to pay for the advertising and he said okay.

I let this go till yesterday when I received a statement that I did not understand and then called the 800 number and discussed the details with customer relations. They referred me to customer service and she said she could not help me. She referred me to the claims department. I spoke with a representative there and we listened to the voice recording and he agreed that there was no statement indicating that there was a complimentary listing. He said he would contact my local agent. He later called me back and said that he could not do anything about this claim. The local agent said he could not cancel my agreement because it was past the deadline.

This is a very unsatisfactory answer.

In any business, there are a zillion ways to spend money on marketing and advertising. My goal is to reduce the present marketing and slowly build up to what I think will give me the best return. I agree that having my business listed in the phone book is important but I would be perfectly happy with the complimentary listing that should have been offered. Is there anything else I can do to cancel?

Thank you,

Candice
