followup on Whirlpool Dishwasher complaint

followup on Whirlpool Dishwasher complaint This is a followup to a complaint I sent in earlier on my experience with whirlpool. To recap: my Quiet Partner II dishwasher stopped working after 2-1/2 years of light usage and the Whirlpool recommended reepairman advised me that the motor and pump had burned out and that it would cost over $400.00 to repair with parts, labor and the service charge I had already paid of $79.00 plus tax. I complained to Whirlpool and was advised by Julie in Customer Service, and I quote "that the appliance was out of warranty, that I had the option at the time of purchase of purchasing an extended warranty (which I did not do) and that the customer has to take responsibility SOMETIME". I contacted this website and then I contacted Whirlpool again as I could not believe that a company of such longstanding magnitude would leave their customers out in the cold like this when they experienced a problem, obviously not of their own doing. This time I was told that they would be willing to pay for the parts, BUT I would be responsible for the initial service charge, the labor charges AND AN ADDITIONAL SERVICE CHARGE TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE APPLIANCE, SINCE THE APPLIANCE REPAIRMAN HAD BEEN HERE IN NOVEMBER 2006 AND IT WAS NOW JANUARY 2007. This would make the total repair cost to me over $200.00 on an appliance that originally cost $400.00 and was ONLY 2-1/2 YEARS OLD. I then contacted the Better Business Bureau for their help and I just received a call from Whirlpool in response today. The customer service clerk advised that she was SURPRISED to hear from the BBB because she was waiting for my response to her offer to pay for the parts and that the offer WOULD NOT CHANGE and that they would now allow me 15 more days to take them up on their offer or the offer would be withdrawn. I advised the rep that I was not willing to pay an additional $200.00 towards what I see as a defective appliance and that I would NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER WHIRLPOOL OR WHIRLPOOL ASSOCIATED APPLIANCE (JENN- AIR, KITCHENAID TO NAME A COUPLE, CHECK THE WEBSITE WHIRLPOOL.COM FOR THE REST) AND I HEARTILY SUGGEST THAT ANYONE READING THIS DO THE SAME. CONTRARY TO WHAT THEIR WEBSITE SAYS, WHIRLPOOL DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS OR CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. ONCE YOUR WARRANTY EXPIRES, THEY HAVE MADE IT QUITE CLEAR YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN REGARDLESS OF THE AGE OR PROBLEM WITH THEIR PRODUCT. Since when does a built in dishwasher last 2-1/2 years??? IS THAT WHAT YOU EXPECT FOR $400?? Do yourself a favor and choose another manufacturer. I know I will. Donna W., Bellmore, New York. Our panel shorted out and caught fire, issuing smoke throughout our house. The replacement part is on back-order (Gee, I wonder why?) It has already been three weeks and promises to be another three at least. This is in addition to the two other times in the last two years that required a service call for food getting in underneath the chopper blade (which is a special feature that is supposed to prevent the drain from clogging and burning out the motor. The design crew was really great at troubleshooting this one; they made the plastic shield too small, so now food gets caught there and causes the exact problem it is supposed to prevent. I bought a top of the line Whirlpool dishwasher and the computer (board) that makes it turn on and off has burnt up 4 times. Whirlpool offered me an extented 6 month warranty and have it fixed the 3rd time. Well it has happened again and Whirlpool will not stand behind their product. They offered me 15% off a new dishwasher. Yeah right like I am going to buy another whirlpool! Also this was bought in 2005 and it was installed in a second home and we have used our lawn mower more than I have used this dishwasher.
