Online Banking by Washington Mutual Bank
Beware of the deceptive advertising by the Washington Mutual Bank for 5% interest on your money.
When I went through the hassles of completing paperwork (keeping a good paper trail) of opening a "Free no interest $1" checking account and putting two dollars in it so that I could write a $1 check to give WA MU my official signature, even though I was a customer of theirs for thirty years but a special online requirement, then tried to transfer from my money market account online it would not let me.
Then I called telephone banking and was told that it took three business days before I could transfer. Then I called and was told that Jenny from telephone banking did transfer my money on Jan 3, 2007.
I trusted telephone banking but on checking online Feb 1, 2007 I found that the transfer had not been made. When I called they said oh, because that is a trust account you need to go into the nearest branch office and do in person. When I asked why they did not tell me on Dec 29, 2006, when I opened the account nor on Jan 3, 2007 when they said the 3 days until you can transfer nor when Jenny told me that she transferred the funds.
On Feb 2, 2007 I went into the branch and transferred $18K but was told that I would have to contact telephone banking to get the $75 lost interest at 5% for the month. When I called telephone banking on 2/3/07, Jeff the Supervisor said no he would not give me the lost interest and that they don't call Customers to tell them that they were previously given mis-information about transfers made.
Therefore on Feb 3, 2007, I went to my local branch and closed my five accounts that I had for over thirty years and want to warn everyone that the poor Customer Service about Washington Mutual Bank is justified and to not use this poorly managed bank.
