Republic Windows
Comment On ThisI agree, I purchased a Neuman home in Plainfield Illinois in 2005. This house is now approximately 9 years old and all of the windows (Republic) need to be replaced. The locking mechanism on all the windows are all out of place. The heat from the sun heated up the glue or whatever is used to hold the windows together, which intern changed the shape of the window. This makes it impossible to lock the windows. At first I thought maybe it was the builder, and then I found out all of my neighbors have the same problems. Wait, you may still say its the builder, but no. My brother also owns a Neuman home up north, and he does not have problems with his windows (because they are not Republic windows).... I also have a large double hung window in the front of my house that leaks air like the window is always open. I could easily fit 4 business cards between the actual window and the frame in sits in. I personally think this is a great feature that Republic built into their windows, especially in the winter time. This feature helps my gas bill, and fresh air circulation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be replacing all my windows one at a time, and I will not take the chance of getting burned again. When the warranty on your refrigerator lapses, you can be sure that the appliance service company will most definitely charge you for any repairs that they make. Can you imagine telling your car dealer that even though your car is out of warranty you feel that they should fix it for free anyway? Windows are no different. Republic has a long history of consistently honoring our warranty obligations. We have a printed warranty that clearly states that the glass in our new construction window is covered for 5 years for seal failures and in that time period we will provide the replacement glass at no charge. During the first year, we will provide the labor as well. In excess of 5 years, there are a myriad of environmental reasons that could contribute to window performance issues that are far beyond our control. We are proud of our historical performance in this area and are successful only because the vast majority of our customers are quite satisfied with our service and support. That employee and the former owner of Republic are no longer with the company, as I have already told you. I just purchased this home in 2004 new and we are replacing the 2 windows in the kids rooms. They are the slider windows and the ice that builds up on the inside of the window is just crazy. The cold area comes through and I am also checking to make sure that it isn't open because sometimes it feels like it is. I think the poor windows along with the poor builder just makes things worse. I am not replacing with Republic but if anyone has any great suggestions for other dealers let me know because we are replacing these as soon as the weather breaks. We would love to replace all of the sliders (8 plus a patio door) but that is alot on money for a home that is only going to be 4 years old. Shoddy product aside, Republic has a reputation in the industry of being very sleazy. I suspect that, as is the norm, someone from the company will find this post and go on a rant about how they are in actuality and amazing company and tear my post apart. It's how they operate, see http://www.vinyl-replacement-windows.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=861 Their product is garbage and the company has NO scruples whatsoever. To the person at the company cruising the net replying to these posts (trying to do damage control), why don't you focus on supporting your product instead, or better yet, making a better one. All the windows in my house have broken seals. You can see rust and mold growing inside of the windows. I think it's a bunch of crap to have to pay for labor. My house also was built in 1999 windows.I think if the labor does need to be paid dont put the same windows that are oviously going to have problems years down the line. REPUBLIC should put upgraded windows that stand up to the quality they would put in there own houses. I have a Lakewood Home built in 1999 (Lakewood Valley) that has Republic windows. I am not the original homeowner (bought the home in 2005). Shortly after we moved in, we found that a couple of the windows would leak during heavy rainstorms. This has progressed to the point that now when there is an even moderately heavy rain, nearly EVERY window in the home leaks significantly. I have contacted both Republic and Lakewood and they have both stated that there is no warranty since I am not the original homeowner, so there is nothing they can do about it. I agree that if this was one or two windows, then fine, I would accept it and pay for the fix. But since it is just about every window, it is clearly a manufacturing issue, and I also feel that it is unfair that I now have to pay to have the windows fixed or replaced. Does anyone know anyone else with this problem? If so, please email me. Have you contacted Republic regarding this issue?
