Delivery Service

Below is the Fed-ex tracking register for a package sent by Buydig. In spite of repeated statements by Fed-ex staff that the package would be delivered, it never was. Details follow, but one thing seems clear: there is a serious disconnect between the Chicago area Fed-ex people and whoever answers the phones at the 800 number. There appears to be little or no communication between the two.

I won't go so far as to accuse anyone of lying (with the possible exception of whatever driver had the package on December 15), just to say Fed-ex staff were likely doing what they were told during the 10 minutes or so of training they apparently received.

As the register indicates, delivery was attempted twice on December 13 and 14. My daughter lives alone and works during the day - so far, no problem, she in fact was not there. She called on December 14 to say she could be home all day the next day and was told the package would be delivered. She told the person answering the phone the downstairs doorbell doesn't work but she would be looking for the driver if he/she would come to the door (one of your staff later told her that detail was in your notes for this package).

She took a day off work on December 15 to stay home - no delivery! The register says the delivery was attempted at 6 pm. She was there at that time, until after 7 pm. She looked at 7 pm and when she returned at 8 pm or so - there was no tag on the main apartment door stating a delivery had been attempted UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING.

My daughter called the 800 number on December 16 and was told the package would be delivered that day (Saturday). No one came - she called again that day and was told the package wasn't accessible over the weekend because it had been taken to the "business office". She was told to call on Monday.

She and I both called on Monday, December 18, asking for a Saturday delivery because she couldn't take another day off work. We were both told such a delivery would be attempted.

On Tuesday, December 19, my daughter found a message on her answering machine from the local Fed-ex office saying the package would not be delivered and would have to be picked up. She called back to the local office on December 20 and explained what had happened and was then told a delivery would be attempted the following Saturday, December 23.

Saturday, December 23 - no delivery! She called the local number and was told the package would NOT be delivered to her apartment, she would have to pick it up or it would be returned to the merchant in two days. She could not do that - she has no car and if she did, getting it up three flights of stairs by herself would not be feasible. She asked if it could be delivered to her office and was told it could be but only if the sender requested it.

I called as sender on December 26 and requested delivery to her office, offering to pay extra if necessary. I was told that wouldn't be possible, it had to be picked up or returned. At that point, I gave up and asked that the package be returned to the merchant.

Two days later, I saw the return had not been initiated and so sent the email on December 28 asking that it be returned so I could get a refund.
