Rental car

Rental car I rented a car from Enterprise starting on 10/26/2006. The location was 1112 East Division; Arlington, TX 76011. During the initial vehicle inspection Tim told me to initial several places on the contract without mentioning 3 were insurance related. I knew what they were and stated verbally that I did not want the insurance. Tim wasted the next several minutes trying to sell me the insurance. I declined and initialed in the boxes to decline the insurance. My copy shows that all 3 insurances were declined. I had taken my car into the shop for repairs. I tried to mitigate damages by having 2 repairs done at once. My rear bumper had been scratched 6 months prior by a State Farm driver. A Farmers Insurance driver had turned right on red and side swiped me. I gave my debit card to Enterprise for the deposit. I returned the rental car on 12/5/06. The total bill was $1294.01. They wanted me to pay $111 for PAI, one of the insurances that I had declined. I brought this up and they stated it would be credited to the bill. No incidental charges were due since it had more gas than when I picked up the car. About a week later I looked at my bank account. Enterprise had made a charge of $750 on 12/5/06 and then a credit of $77.35 on 12/11/06. I called Enterprise and was told that they would look into it and call me back. They also confirmed that they had not credited the bill for the insurance, but would do so then. I also called my bank and disputed the charge. My bank gave me a credit for 672.65. I did not hear back from Enterprise. I decided to wait until after the holiday season to follow up. I called Farmers and verified that they had taken responsibility and would pay Enterprise. I called Enterprise at 9:35 am on 1/5/07 to ask if things had been resolved. I was told that they would check and get back to me. They still had the insurance on the bill, but would credit it immediately. I waited a few days then called back. Again I waited a few days and called back. Each time it was a new person who would check and credit me for the insurance. I decided to get in touch with a corporate office. I sent an email. It was forwarded to Drew Wedemeyer, Area Manager. He emailed me stating that Farmers had paid. On 2/23/07 I looked at my bank account and there is a charge to Enterprise for $672.35 dated 2/22/07. I called my bank and was told that Enterprise had validated the charge and could not be credited to my account as an erroneous charge. I called Enterprise and insisted they handle to matter while I was on the phone. Nick tells me he will be happy to credit my account for the $111 for the PAI, which was still on the bill. After about 5 minutes he tells me that they had received a payment of $390 from Farmers. We continued talking then he tells me that they had received one payment of $510 from Farmers and had not received anything from State Farm. He insisted that he never mentioned the original $390 figure. I decided to call the insurance companies for verification. Farmers confirmed that they had paid $900 total. The verified this by sending me a payment statement complete with check numbers. One payment of $390 on 12/15/06 and one payment of $510 on 1/23/07 were made on the account. I promptly faxed a copy over to Enterprise as proof that they had been paid. I called State Farm. State Farm told me that they had never received a bill from Enterprise requesting payment, but were ready to pay for 7 days for a total of $231.16. I contacted Enterprise with the new information. I was told that then manager was out, but he would get back to me. I had a couple of checks that would not clear without the $672.35. I had to leave work to go to the bank and transfer funds to cover the 2 checks. On 2/26/07 I contacted a corporate office and explained the situation. I was told that the situation would be looked into and they would call me back. On an original bill of $1294.01; $111 was an overcharge, $900 was paid by Farmers, $231.36 will be paid by State Farm, Enterprise apparently feels justified in charging my $672.35. I have spent many hours researching the information to correct their mistake. I could have used the time to earn a living. As it stands now I am out both my time and the $672.35.
