SPRINT PCS / Cell phone service

SPRINT PCS / Cell phone service SPRINT PCS – location unknown I had someone open a SPRINT PCS account under my name for 8 months without my knowledge. After I filed a police report I was told to complete an affidavit from SPRINT for identity theft. After I had paid to have papers notarized and overnight mail I received a one sentence denial letter from SPRINT PCS which said that because the bills were sent to my address I was responsible for the bill. I contacted the sheriff's office and he told me about the same thing that had happened to him with sprint and even as a police officer he was sent through the runaround. He basically told me he had to threaten a lot of folks and eventually wound of talking to the vice president who then told him give them 3 months to remove it from his credit report. The officer told him he had 24 hours because he was in the process of trying to buy a house and if he was denied he would sue Sprint for mental anguish and all that stuff. The officer told me to contact the security division of Sprint which I will do on Monday. He told me to tell them that they need to give him a copy of the application, checks, and other identifying information that they will not release to me. When I brought up concerns about whether or not they would follow through he said that I need to tell them that he would send a request if needed. He was immensely friendly and repeatedly said that I was the victim and not to give up! What he said about the affidavit that I had to sign didn't make me feel a whole lot better. He said that if you read the affidavit thoroughly and if you sign it you are admitting some responsibility. Unfortunately I didn't read in between the lines but regardless if I did it was something I HAD to sign! The sheriff's office even said that if I didn't complete it my report would be dismissed! What was I suppose to do? The reason I found out about this debt is because of a third party collection notice and on my credit report there was an outstanding debt from Sprint although I never saw a inquiry on my credit report from Sprint. All of the credit bureaus wrote back saying that they didn't see any such thing on my credit report! I was told by the records department of the sheriffs department to go to the sprint website print out the affidavit and that should take care of it. I believe I did everything according to the letter and shelled out over $50 in the process. The first actions I took were to call all three credit bureaus and put alerts on my social security number. I even went a step further and wrote out letters explaining what happened to include the copy of my credit report with the incident, the collection notice and the information from the police report. There is nothing I would like better than to join in a collective effort to stop Sprint from doing this to other people. Don't give up!!!
