Allstate Home Insurance Allstate Homeowners Insurance San Francisco, CA. I have worked with my agent for 10 years with car policies and had no problems with the one claim I had. My wife and I recently bought a home and my agent was very eager to expand our coverage including an umbrella policy and life insurance. We were asked to install a flo- valve (gas main cut-off valve) which cost $350 in order to be eligible. My agent sent an inspector to our home UNANNOUNCED on a Saturday morning. He was unable to produce any credentials but we let him in anyway. Our Shepard mix 5 year old barked as usual when the door bell rang so we put her in the bedroom while he did the inspection (checked the valve, took photos of the yard, asked the usual questions). The next week our agent called to ask "what did our dog do?" and we had been deemed uninsurable because we harbor a "vicious" dog. My agent has made no effort to further explain their decision-so much for working with someone for 10 years.... After researching this issue, many breeds are listed on the vicious list but many States are enacting legislation to prevent insurers from discriminating against dog owners whose dogs have never been cited for a vicious act, regardless of breed. Apparently Farmers and Allstate are the hardest to insure with. We are canceling our car policy and of course no longer going to do business with Allstate. IF YOU ARE A DOG-OWNER, BE SURE TO ASK ABOUT LIABILITY COVERAGE UNDER YOUR HOMEOWNERS POLICY. They would not have been there for you had you needed them.
