Business Complaint Concerning Theft of Property & Breach of Contract

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

I would like to file a complaint against Best Price Movers, located at 3912 W. McLean St., Chicago, Illinois 60647; for theft of property and breach of contract.

The incident in question took place on January 4th 2007. After terminating my storage lease with Best Price Movers, Karen, a senior manager & liaison within the company agreed to allow me to remove my boxes and personal belongings from their storage dock. However, I was to leave behind all furniture and major electronics for services rendered. At no time did management infer I was forbidden to take any specific boxes or personal belongings.

As I was unloading my boxes off site, the dock workers took it upon themselves to ransack the remainder of my belongings and pilfer through my boxes. When confronted with this complaint a dock worker admitted going through my boxes and gave a detail report as to the contents of the boxes. Wishing to avoid an argument with the dock worker, I brought the issue to management.

While explaining the situation to management, the previously mentioned dock worker barged into a closed door meeting and denied ever having gone through my belongings. The intermediary manager, Claudia was unable to gain control of her employee and allowed the dock worker to become verbally aggressive & belligerent at this time. The dock worker stormed out of the office and I was assured someone in a higher position would contact me to rectify the thief of my property.

Best Price Movers allowed their dock employees to open my boxes and pilfer through my private property after specifically being told by senior management I could retain my belongings. The management of Best Price Movers was apathetic to the situation and unable to control their employees.

Sincerely, Linda

I had the same company move me from Indiana to Boise, Idaho in 2006. I packed all my belongings myself in plastic totes and ties. As I was driving to Idaho they called me to tell me my weight for the trip was over by some 5,000 pounds. Which I now know they weighed and charged me for the truck also. (which I had to pay to get my belongings) When my shipment showed up which was three weeks later and at 10 pm at night. I had to help the drivers move the boxes and they gave me no time to inspect or check off boxes as they were being brought into my home. Half of the boxes (totes) were missing and everything had been taken apart. I turned in a claim to their insurance company which was a joke. I got a whole 134.00 for items that I knew would cost me over $2,000.00 to replace. After putting away my items I then noticed that all of my kitchen was missing. I called and they told me that my account had been closed and there was nothing more that could be done. They were also very verbally aggressive and billigerent during the phone conversation. A lot of the property belonged to my grandmother and can never be replaced. Basically they steal from the shipments.
