Thrifty Car Rental - Wrong Debit from VISA card

Dear Sirs,

 

I am writing in connection with a problem regarding my rental car with Thrifty during New Year 2007 in Italy.

 

I and my husband rented a car via a danish agency (Ebiludlejning), we had paid all the rental cost before picking up the car from Thrifty , Flumicino Airport, Rome, Italy on 30th December, 2006: 11.00 am . The first problem we had, was the wrong pick up location as Thrifty's system showed a different pick up location from our confirmation voucher. Therefore we had to spent our first 45 minutes in Italy waiting for the car (we got the wrong type of car from what we reserved anyway).

 

Then Thrifty counter staff was trying to get 700 EUR guarantee from our VISA card, anyway it has been rejected by us since we had bought the package that cover 'ALL RISKS'. However the staff still insisted to get the guarantee in order to cover any potential fine or fuel (in case we ignore to fill the fuel upon return). Eventually we agreed to guarantee with 200 EUR for fuel and potential fine. Finally we got the rental car at 11.49 am (as per written on the delivery sheet).

 

We got the instruction document from Thrifty staff, mentioned the regulations upon return which include:

1. We will have to fill the fuel at the closest gas station to the Flumicino Airport.

2. We have to deliver the car within 1 hour delay from the pick up time (12.49 pm)

 

On the 4th January, we returned the car at Thrifty Flumicino with full fuel at 12.3 pm (as per redelivery sheet), everything as per agreement - no accident/damage to the car. We have been informed by Thrifty counter staff that everything is okay and the 200 EUR guarantee from our VISA card has been cancelled.

 

However on the 14th February, 2007 (One and a half month later) , our account has been deducted for 73 EUR from Thrifty without any reason. We called our rental agency (Ebiludlejning) who rejected to assist as they only perform as a booking agency. Then we tried to call the Thrifty in Italy who could not assist neither. After several searches on internet in order to find the Thrifty International Contact Centre or local agency in Denmark, it doesn't seem to be existed. We however found your email instead which hopefully is a correct person to raise the issue with.

 

If so, would request your end to cancel the debit from our VISA card ASAP as per above explanation. This deduction has not been agreed by me, neither my husband. Most important is, it was already been agreed by us and Thrifty staff upon the redelivery time to cancel this guarantee. Therefore it is considered as illegal that Thrifty still use the guarantee without destroy it upon agreement.

 

The concern that accidentally came while I was trying to search for Thrifty contact details, is that the same kind of deduction from the (invalid) guarantee VISA card is not ONLY happened with me, BUT many other Thrifty's customers.

 

I personally believe that you would be able to provide me a good explanation, we don't really expect to stop using your service from the first experience. Therefore would appreciate your clarification. Following is the reference number of our rental agreement.
