Kemp's log home - Chassell MI

Kemp's log home - Chassell MI The business is a vacation rental in the upper penninsula of Michigan. My boyfriend and I rented it last weekend with the website stating that it accommodated "9 people comfortably!". When we were to leave the owner came in and harassed my boyfriend for not having the laundry on 6 beds done. She publicly lectured him in front of all our guests, and then proceeded to charge him $50 for cleaning (although we did the laundry, took out the trash, and ran her dishwasher) and another $20 for a missing key. When she told him about it she verbally abused him over the phone and I confronted her over e-mail, of which both follow. She is an extremely unprofessional woman. We damaged nothing, and she is charging us for something she feels inconvenienced by. She handled everything in a combative manner and acused my group of things that never happened. I think this owner should have a complaint that is public so other unsuspecting clients don't get treated as we did. Shannon, As you stated you were not at the home when I had arrived. Check out is 10AM I do not expect you to get all the laundry done it states to take the bedding off the beds that were used and put them in the laundryroom. Yes we do expect for you to start the laundry so we don't have many batches to get done before the next guest arrive. That was very hard to do when at 11:30AM the beds were still being slept in. I had 4 batches of laundry when your group left which by the way was noon not 10AM. When I got there everyone was laying or sitting down. I asked them to please take there items out of the house so we could clean. I started to clean the only bedroom that was empty - I could not get to the vacuum because that bedroom door was locked and the girls were still sleeping in it. After 15 minutes I went back into the livingroom and no one was attempting to do anything. I felt as though I was doing something wrong. IN THE 10 YEARS THIS is only the 2nd time I had to charge someone for an additional cleaning charge or key. This is not a hotel it is a Vacation Home Rental - we just returned from vacation and their standard cleaning fee was $250.00. I do not charge for cleaning unless it was not left as the contract that Michael signed stated. I have a hard time believing that you are a bunch of professionals considering the comments put in the guest book - PRE DRUNK - BINGE DRINKING - I am surprised that you remember anything. I only have a few hours between guests leaving an coming as I had told Michael that I would be there at 10:30 but I came at 11:30 -- what would have I come into if I showed up at 10:30? As far as the key goes it is not a $20.00 for a new key it is for a new lock set. And after the expense of the new lock set I will be increasing the cost. If everyone was abiding by the contract they would have had plenty of time to put the key back, get all the empty bottles, garbage taken out and taken the sheets of the beds. We are not asking you to clean the house but be courteous of the home as when you arrived it was ready for your group. I also had a hard time getting the fire detector which is there for your safety put back together after you took the cover completely off and battery out. This has been a bad situation for everyone perhaps someday you will spend a couple of hundred thousand on a vacation home and see what you expect out of your guests. P.S. We have more return guests than new guests. Don't worry about next year Winter Carnival was booked for 2008 before the 2007 group arrived. If your group of 9 had to rent a hotel it would have been around $75.00 per room x 4 rooms would have been $300.00 per night x 3 nights = $900.00 (For a room with 2 beds not a completely furnished home). I would say you had good value and a damn good time. I think you are forgetting about what I told Michael that in the main floor bath your guest had paper towel that they were using for the rest room. I had 3 rolls of toilet paper in the cabinet that was gone and there was more in the laundry room if needed. Paper towel is not ment to go into a septic system - I hope we do not have any issues with that. The important thing to remember here is that you had 7 other people that you could not keep track of so unfortatetly Michael signed the contract so he is the only one that I can charge for the cleaning and key.
