I have been dealing with American Liberty Financial (ALF) for approximately a year now with no problems, until 10/6/06 when communication with the company had come to a standstill for 3 months. Early in our commitment with ALF, an agreement was made where we would not mail them monthly payments, but instead, they would provide us with settlement offers, and if we agreed on it, they would electronically take the money and their fees out of our checking account. We never had a problem until our last representative left the company. No emails or phone calls were returned. All of a sudden, on 1/26/07, I noticed that $1649.25 was taken out of my checking account without my approval. I think this is called stealing. We then received an email from Erica Ibushi that ALF has accepted 5 settlement offers "on our behalf" and the company had already deducted their fee from out account. Since as far as I am aware taking money out of a personal checking account without any approval is illegal, I went to my bank and stopped ALFs payment. Since then we have been trying unsuccessfully to get a response from the company and we have been making daily calls and frequent emails to them. We have emailed and spoke to Erica Ibushi, James, Walter, and J.C., all of whom say this will be resolved right away. The contract I have with ALF clearly states, and I quote: "ALF shall respond promptly to client and creditor inquiries and communications. ALF will advise Client of all good faith offers made by the creditors and debt collectors, and their acceptance of any offers made by ALF. ALF will not settle any account without the approval of the client, who has absolute discretion to accept or reject any offer”. Since this part of the contract has not been followed by ALF, I feel not only did they try to steal money from me, but since they do not "promptly respond to client inquiries and communications", they are in breach of contract. Our only contact now is J.C. 1-866-276-6044 ext. 110. We are trying to get copies of all accounts that have been paid as well as accounts that have not yet been paid, along with all of the corresponding account numbers. Whenever you call the company, you either only get voicemail, get a person who swears to resolve our problems, are told the email system has not been working correctly, and the phone system has been having problems. This is not how a business should be run.

I would not suggest dealing with this company. They are shady and do not follow proper business practices.
