Citibank/Student Loan ripoffs January 30, 2007
Customer Service - Citibank (The Student Loan Corporation) P.O. Box 6615 The Lakes, NV 88901-6615
Dear Customer Service Director:
I am writing in an effort to resolve an ongoing student loan account (# XXXX – 70) issue caused by repeated inaccurate posting of my payments by Citibank.
When handled by Suntech, I never experienced any problems. Since March 2006 when Citibank took over I have repeatedly paid online only to find my next payment due is showing an incorrect amount.
It is my practice to overpay my bills when possible. Customer service stated that when overpaying online, even though I was not selecting the “check this box to have the extra amount applied to reduce principal and not advance your next due date” option, the system would automatically post payments to my account that way.
It is dishonest to have a check box option if the system will do it without my checking the box. I’ve called each month to correct my account and spoken with many cust. reps and managers. I’ve even begun to make my payments in-person at my local Citibank.
None of this has prevented the same problem. When I pay more than the amount due, my next month’s payment is not reduced. In addition, I have noticed that for the past several months there has been no reduction in my loan balance although I am paying and paying on time.
I believe Citibank is deliberately inaccurately recording my payments in an attempt to alter my loan balance. After waiting an appropriate amount of time for a reply I will be posting this letter on Complaints.com.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
