DirecTv - Beware for Unethical Business Practices!

Contract Terms DirecTv US http://www.directv.com 1) The first issue began in 2006, my DirecTv provided high def reciever stopped functioning. DirecTv provided me a replacement free of charge. In May 2007, i decided to switch providers. When calling to end service, i was notified that i had "re-signed" to a 2 year commitment when my replacement receiver was issued. This was NEVER explained to me at any time, nor did i sign a thing. I was given a REPLACEMENT because their old receiver BROKE. I never would have agreed to a 2 year renewed commitment. 2) After arguing and going nowhere on issue number 1, DirecTv customer service reps told me that the best thing for me to do, was go on suspended status for 8 months, then in January 08 when this suspended status ends, to call and end service. The 8 months of suspended status would count against my 2 year renewal and i would only have to pay a small portion of the termination fee. I agreed to do this based on what i was told. I just called to end my service. I was told that AS OF OCT 2007 they changed their policy, going on suspended status does NOTHING towards reducing the termination fee. I argued that i went on suspended status back in MAY 2007. They told me there is nothing i can do except pay the full 200$ termination fee. Given i went on suspended status in MAY 2007, my situation should fall under the pre-OCT 2007 POLICY! THEY SHOULD HONOR THEIR WORDS!!! Because, I ordered DRV service from DIRECTV. They came out and attached it to the wall and then left. The installer didnt even attach the phone line, so this means the DRV service will not be able to update or I would not be able to order movies. And I also discovered once I tryed to record a program and watch another. I could'nt. I mean this is what a DVR is for after all. Thats why I decided to get one. I found out that he didnt connect the second line so the DVR would work the way it was suppose to. When I called them back and asked them what was up with this. They informed me that to have that second line it would cost me 250.00 to go up in the attic. Ohter wise I would have a cable line running in the middle of my home rather then the roof line. Its pitched, so they will not attach it on the roof line. Which was not explained to me the day he came out. The installer was very lazy and his intension was to come in attach it and leave. What great service! The bottom line is I returned the DVR since it was worthless to me and now I am now bound to a 2 year contract the just because he accivated the DVR and left. Now I have this contract for something I dont have. Then they promised me credits to make up for this. Which I have not recieved and they have no intension of giving. I have spent the last 4 month fighting with them on the phone about this and getting no where. They can care less as well. What a rip off.... One very upset customer...... They advertised they would move our dish for free. After 6 months we changed our service to a less expensive one. They said we had to pay a 228$ early termination fee. No-where on thier web site does it say this, also no-one at any time told me this on the phone. They would not even listen to my complaint, which tells me thier doing this to eveyone!and often. We all need to ban together and sue them and hopfully shut them down! This is one VERY criminal company!! please spread the word to everyone!! Are you aware that Directtv was sued and had to pay over $5 million because of this very same complaint you have? I had the same problem with them when I went to cancel because we moved and could not receive service due to the area. They tried to tell me I had to pay the cancellation fee or have it turned over to collection. I did research on this and found that they were sued by numerous states, and Pennsylvania was one of the states. They were sued for their way of forcing people into extended contracts without informing people of it.I called my state's A.G. after I sent DirectTv a letter reminding them of the law suit. A few weeks later, I received a letter from DirectTv that what I told them concerning the cancellation of my service was correct and they were dropping the charges and I also received a letter from the Attorney General's office basically stating the same thing. Call your state's office, it helps. Make sure you document or have documented everything that you said to DirectTv and what they said to you. I did, and it finally took 1 year to get it resolved, more or less, but I did.
