TRAGIC DAY

WELLSVILLE VETERINARY HOSPITAL
2435 Standards Road
Wellsville, Ne 14895
US

On this terrible day, our daughter took her 1 1/2 year old female basset to a local vet, who's name is Dr. Thomas Lopez of the Wellsville Veterinary Hospital,to be spayed, as required by the SPCA where she got the dog. She heard only bad things about this vet but the SPCA said she needed to take her there as stated in the contract. On that dreadful morning she loaded up her girl, Sophie, and drove to the Wellsville Veterninary Hospital, the dog herself did not want to stay, the people in the office reassured her they would take good care of her, well they didn't. She had to call, they didn't even have the courage to call her, Sophie died! I myself was very, very upset. As, we told the SPCA we would take her somewhere else to be spayed, we even told them we would pay for it, no they said she would be okay! I called Dr. Lopez myself and wanted to know exactly what has happened to Sophie. He said he cut her open and saw she was already spayed! What kind of vet does not even know if a dog is spayed before you cut them open, there should be a scar. I said to him, you mean you killed our dog for nothing. No commet, from the Dr. There seemed to be complications, so he said. Well, that was in the beginning of December, since then we had an autopsy done on her, by a qualifed vet,and the findings where, she was surely spayed before, and there was a whole in her lung. This vet said that the whole could have been genetic, or something else, and the death would occur to any vet that would have spayed her, so my question is how did she live through the spaying she had originally? And what did really happen at this poor excuse of a vet's hospital. We since then have a petition going to try to get his license revoked. Also, there are many complaints filed against him. We have heard so many horror stories about this same vet, and they are the truth not slander. About 85% people that have taken their pets there, either their pets die or have life long problems associtated with this Dr. Thomas Lopez. I tried to get the paper to print my story in the local paper and they won't do it. I was very glad to hear about this site as we need to let the public know about this person, who does not know what he is doing. I know that for a fact because we have heard first hand he tried to spay 2 MALE dogs! And he has a license???? Come on now. Please, if you need to drive a little further do so, and save your pet don't let them end up like Sophie and many other poor animals who died at the hand of Dr. Thomas Lopez. Supporters of Sophie

that is such a sad story!

Dr. Lopez is my vet!!

in august i had a purebred JRT. he was 3 months old and his name was Twerp. i loved him sooo much.. but my sister in law brought a dog to my house that had parvo and soon he got it. i was devistated and i took him to the vet in portville ny. they said that there was nothing they could do and wanted to put him down right on the spot and i said no, i would like to try my hardest to save him because i didn't want to part with him. the next day he got worse and was dying so we took him back and he died in my arms :(

i didn't want to go back to that person ever again.

so i talked to the breeder who was my sister in laws mom and she said she would give me another puppy in place of her daughters stupidness. i first then spoke with my new vet, Dr. Thomas Lopez. he said when we get her to take her right to his office and he will give her all the shots that she needs and he promised she would be perfectly fine. so we got her a week after i spoke with the breeder and took her straight to Dr. Lopez and he tested her for parvo.. she had a little bit and i cried.. he said that she will be fine though because it only showed up last minute on the test and went ahead and gave her the shots. we took her home and gave her puppy vitamins like he said so she would be healthy for the most part. a couple days later she started to get sick so we were giving her liquids and gatoraid like the portville vet said previously. she didn't get any better so we took her back and he said it will pass soon and gave her a 10 minute IV for dehidration. he said if anything happens during the night or after hours to call his phone servise and he will get right on it asap. so we took her home and cared for her the best we could. she started to get better, then around 10 pm she got horrible. we started calling his after hours phone servise and they took my number down and said that they would call him asap. we never heard back. we called every half hour until 2 in the morning and still no one would call. she then died in my mothers arms and awoke 20 minutes later. i swear it was the worst thing i have ever went through. when his office opened back up i called him and yelled at him and he said no one called the office and his excuse was that the people who took down my number wrote the wrong one down. but i don't understand how they did that if i called that many times.. :( i deffinetly think hes a liar and if hes your vet never rely on his after hours phone servise.

My question to you is If another vet. already told you that sophie had a hole in her lung and that was the cause of death why are you making such an issue of this and attacking Mr. Lopez. It appears to me that he was just doing his job. It is a sad story but when you pick an animal from the SPCA you dont know its medical history. As far as the rest of the story and tryin to spay 2 male dogs well just like you said you only heard it. Do you believe everything you hear or just what you want to?

Haveing 4 dogs and 4 cats, at this time, and haveing had many more before this, I think I know a good vet. when I use them. I have been going to Dr. Lopez sense he started in Wellsville. He has saved, treated, and comforted my pets. He treates them as the most important cases in town.I think this person owes him a apology.

Obvious slanderous lies. Really; how do you try to spay the male dogs as there is a penis in the way! Sophie had a diaphragmatic hernia from some prior trauma and passed away hours after her exploratory search for ovarian tissue as we were told she was in heat by the shelter. That hernia could have caused her demise with no surgery. Any jumping, playing and could have happened anywhere anytime. We neuter thousands yearly never a lawsuit or a problem. Even this dog not suing since she knows is not our fault. I understand the grief, guilt, anger, blame reversal thing but this is just mean vicious cruel slanderous lies. I have never even met this girl "Molly" and her mom who are posting this garbage apparently for giggles as they know the truth. "Sophie" was a shelter dog we were unlucky enough to discover had serious hernia problems. We can proove this by posting the official necropsy report. What a nightmare. Pray some psychos like this don't come for you some day. Any questions please write me.

I am familiar with this vet, dog and the autopsy report. There are so many inaccuracies in this statement and it is very clear to me that the author is of low intelligence.

First of all, there are various surgeries that require an incision into the abdomen, therefor, a scar, if visable, doesn't necessarily mean the animal has been spayed. The autopsy report stated there was a hole (not whole) in the diaphragm likely caused by a previous injury. When the abdomen was opened air flowed into the chest cavity collapsing the lungs. The dog came from the SPCA who confiscates abused and neglected animals. The dog didn't die with the previous spay probably because it hadn't yet received the injury that punctured the diaphragm.

The accusation that this vet has tried to spay two male dogs is absurd. It is common procedure to make an incision into the abdomen of males dogs when performing a neuter. Either the author completely fabricated this accusation or one of the uneducated people that she spoke to was confused by the incision line.

I find that Dr. Lopez is a great veterinarian and person as well. He has always taken wonderful care of my pets and I trust that he is quite competent. He also does a lot for local animal shelters and the animals in their care.

You will always hear good and bad about every vet, doctor, dentist and so on. Unfortunatley people like the author have an unpleasent experience and want someone, anyone to blame. She should be upset with the person who abused the dog causing the injury that lead to her death. The author and her daughters efforts would be better utilized fighting animal cruelty and not the man who does so much to help these unfortunate animals.
