Auto Repair The Autobarn Volkswagen of Evanston 1012 Chicago Ave. Evanston IL 60202 Evanston, IL 60202 US Complaint Description: Problem Date: Dec. 17, 2007 Order Number: 7737518620 Payment Amount: $624.28 Payment Method: Credit card Refund: $30.00 My car had some electrical problems, so I came to take a check at The Autobarn Volkswagen of Evanston. The check fee is $50.00. In fact, the electrical problem is because of the broken flat fuse, which cost only $2.1. Then they made a list that many items to be fixed. They told me that their mechanic is an expert and now has known my car very well after the check. I talked with them about the wiper which does not work, and it is the most important thing to fix immediately. They told me that they can fix it, and also other items. They offer to fix seven items at the price of $600 plus tax, including repair the wiper. Because they agree to repair the wiper, which is what I am concerned most. So I agree with them about the price $600 plus tax. I came back on Dec. 18, 2007 to take my car back. They said everything was done and asked me to go to pick up the paperwork and pay the payment. I paid $624.28. Then ten minutes later, they took my car back. I tested my car and found that the wiper was not fixed at all. But they did no even tell me about that until I found that by myself. I asked them why they did not fix it. They said that it worth much and they can not do it. Now they ask more money if I want to repair the wiper. I told them they should notify me if they can not fix the wiper, but they did not notify me about that. Since our agreement is fixing seven items by $600 plus tax. Now they could not finish the tasks. This is totally their duty. But they tried to find many excuses to avoid repairing the wiper, such as changing the list of items from repairing wiper to repairing wiper arm. They made the check for my car, and they told me their expert knew well of my car, and they told me they can fix the wiper, but at last they did not do that. I am not a mechanic, and I do not know how to repair the wiper and how much to do that. I only know that the wiper does not work and they agree to fix it after the check. I still paid $624.28 for seven items they offer to fix, including the wiper. At last they only gave me $30.00 refund because they did not repair the wiper. I am quite unsatisfied with them because they did not do as what they said. They did not even repair the most important thing. They should notify me if they can not do it, so that I can decide if I will do other things or not, and I will reconsider the price if I know that they can not fix the wiper. But they did not notify me at all. They even did not tell me about that after I paid. They should follow the agreement, fixing the seven items at the price $600 plus tax. They should fix the wiper now, and should not ask me for extra money. If they can not do this, they should refund the money I have paid. Because they did not finish the tasks in our agreement. I feel like my hands are tied because they are conviently located to where I live and that is where I bought my car. Every time I go to the repair shop I feel like I am being lied to or being swindled. One time I saw a fork lift driver taking a pallet of auto part up a ramp. The pallet fell over and some of the parts got damaged. The personell there acted as if it was no big deal (some even laughed). Another time, I was pulling my car into the shop (for another repair *sigh*) and I saw a customer complaining that there was damage done on their car during the time it was there. Doesn't give you much confidence about the palce when you see those kind of things. I heard a lot more testimonies about the Autobarn repair shop and all NOT GOOD. Can someone recommend an alternative? Can we catch these guys red-handed in these lies so no else has to go through this? Better Business Bureau? NBC 'to catch a thief' - HELP?
