excessive tow charges

tow company citywide towing 13156 sheridan blue island, Il 60406 US My car was towed to this facility (citywide auto @ 13156 Sheridan, Blue Island, IL 60406), under the misconception and trickery of the tow truck driver (Sam), that Saturday (11/17/2007) morn at 4am. This facility was closed over that weekend and the next business day (Monday 11/19/2007), I had the vehicle released for Rokaitis to pick up and take to the body shop of my insurance company. When my vehicle got the authorization from my insurance company to repair, I was told I had to come up with over $2500.00 for the fees while it was at citywide auto. I was told by the tow truck driver (Sam), before he towed my car, there would not be any fees and was even given a receipt from him stating that his company would pay half of my deductible if my car was going to be fixed at citywide. If we, as consumers, cannot trust that the right thing will happen when in need, and then what are we to do? I called and wrote to the Better Business Bureau, where I was instructed to fill out a form on line and send it to their address. I then was referred to the Illinois Commerce Commission, and was told, that there was nothing to be done in these types of cases because the law will not go into effect until July, 2008. The lack of concern from the people who we should be able to trust is the most questionable. If these tow companies can overcharge for a tow, charge whatever they want for a storage fee, then, what is left for the hard working family man/woman trying to stay afloat amongst rising mortgage rates, taxes, etc.? What can we do to get a fair shake? From: Message Author (click here to email author) Date: Monday, 17-Dec-07 19:34:21 CST Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This |
