Business Info
On June 3, 2007, we were told by one of David's coworkers that Columbus Container Employees got an 8% discount if they signed up at the Circuit City Verizon Kiosk in our city. We made one visit and we were not sure if it would fit in our budget. After doing the figures at home, we decided that it would be financially feasible to get Verizon phones with the 8% discount. We went back to the store on June 9 and inquired about the phones and the discount again.
Upon entering the store, the Daughrity's were served right away. They were assured that we definitely qualified for the discount. They went ahead and bought two phones and activated them.
At the end of June, the bill came. There was no discount. The Daughrity's made another visit and MANY phone calls to the kiosk. Finally they were told there was a clerical error and they only needed to bring in another paycheck stub to verify employment.
This situation had the Daughrity's checking the bill several times each week. Still, no discount was appearing on the bill. Each time they were ABLE to reach someone at the kiosk, they assured us that we were going to get the discount and they would call us. The calls were never returned and the discount never appeared on the bills.
July 21, 2007, David's in-laws wanted to join on the account. John Johnson, went with the Daughrity's to the Circuit City Verizon Kiosk. First David asked about the discount again. In the presence of David, Tonya, their sons and John, David was assured by the manager, Neil, that he did qualify for the discount and if it did not show on the bill, that the bill could be brought in and he would personally take the discount off the bill and allow it to be paid there. Satisfied with that answer, the Johnson's were added to the account and John purchased other equipment to go with the phones he bought.
On July 23, 2007, John Johnson went back into the Circuit City Verizon Kiosk. His bluetooth would not work correctly and he wanted to exchange it for one that did. He had the receipt and presented it with the problem. The gentleman that helped him acted like the cost had to come out of his own pocket! John was later able to work with Neil, who made that situation right with John.
During this period of two weeks, several phone calls were made to the Circuit City Verizon Kiosk. Each time the Daughrity's were assured the situation would be taken care of and when it was, they would receive a phone call. That call never came.
On August 6, 2007, David and Tonya Daughrity returned to the Circuit City Verizon Kiosk after calling over the weekend. The bill had come once again with no discount. David waited at the kiosk for nearly an hour. When he was waited on, the man at the counter said "Dude, that discount is only for office staff. Neil said he would call you." David left infuriated!
That evening, David called the Verizon Customer Service number. A nice woman named Tiffany helped him. Verizon said they were not happy about how he was treated, but could only offer him a free month. Tiffany told David that it said on all Verizon computers the discount was for office staff only and the kiosk knew the day David and Tonya walked in that they would not get it. David and Tonya were furious at being lied to for 2 months! David reluctantly accepted the free month just to buy time to figure out what to do.
August 8, 2007, John and Tonya found out that Verizon put on file that the situation is resolved! That is just not true, which is why you are receiving this letter today. The Verizon Kiosk at Circuit City lied about the discount to make the sale, then lied long enough to get them locked into the contract, then dismissed them like it was no big deal. This is NOT good business practice.
The Daughrity's and the Johnson's would like for Verizon to give the discount to them anyway for their trouble.
They would also like to see to it proper measures are taken to prevent a problem of this kind from happening to anyone else.
Sincerely,
David and Tonya Daughrity
