I'm having a very similar experience. At the beginning of the Summer, I signed the 3-month contract with the understanding that it was ONLY FOR 3 MONTHS. The kid working at the desk made no mention of automatic deductions going beyond that 3 month window. My girlfriend, who signed the same contract was met with the similar "it's in the contract" response by the worker (who's behavior annoys me to no end, by the way).

What bothers me most is how firmly they default to "it's in the contract." Under this premise, the contract could say "after the first 3 months, your membership dues will quadruple for each month moving forward." From my impression up to this point, the customer is up s*ht creek without a paddle.

Of course, we're told to always read the small print before signing a contract, so maybe we're out of luck - who knows. However, my response would be, why would someone read small print if they are verbally lead to believe that the contract is only for 3 months? I would be interested to learn if the Hollywood Tan representative has any legal obligation to verbalize something that the customer would absolutely want to know before signing the contract.

Does anyone have anything they can contribute?
