I sent a computer from Kolkata through First Flight courier on 15.3.06, to Chennai, covered by insurance for Rs.40,000/-. It was delivered on 17.3.06 in a damaged condition. Claims application was submitted on 19.3.06. Then reaching Chennai I tried to take up the matter with the courier. They prevaricated whenever in difficulty, using Tamil instead of English or Hindi. Finally, they found that they sent the Proof of Delivery (POD) without checking it, to Kolkata. All the related papers were submitted by 19.4.06. Since then I pursued it over Internet. Telephone calls more than 100 were cunningly refused until December 2006, on the plea of the claims officer’s post lying vacant. Then someone joined, but refused to take any decision about the claims submitted to her predecessor. A septuagenarian with mobility lost due to knee pain I went to their Mirza Ghalib Street office. There I was detained for hours only to be told to come next day. No responsible person could be contacted till date. I do not know yet when they are going to compensate, or compensate at all. They have already changed their e-mail address and shifted their office to Salt Lake. Browsers should be cautious to send any valuable goods through First Flight couriers unless they are prepared to forego any compensation in case of damage. Let them not be hoodwinked by the tall claims that are found in their website.
