Credit Collection Agency SCAM?

Last year I was a subscriber to Smithsonian magazine. I intentionally let

the subscription lapse. Yesterday the National Credit Audit Corporation

sent me a "Collection Notice" for $12.00 on behalf of Smithsonian. It looks

real. It has a case file number. it allows 30 days to pay the Collection

Agent... I emailed Smithsonian subscriptions describing the situation and

within one day they replied that I should disregard any further invoices

from the Collection agent or Smithsonian with their regrets for the

situation and loss of my subscription.

I am pursuing this complaint via other avenues as well. Putting my

complaint out there to BBB or anyone other consumer protection agency that

can get this apparent scam advertised to the widest audience.
