Purchased a defective Toshiba Satellite with 3-year full service plan on 3/31/07. On 4/2/07, less than 48 hours after purcase, returned it to Best Buy and the GeeK Squad "geek" insisted that it was fine. (High pitched buzzing noise was only discernable in quiet surroundings, but he barely gave it any time at all.) Went to Pinole store for an exchange after telling off the "service manager" at Emeryville regarding poor service/treatment. He was very young, very dense, and could only repeat the "company policies".

 

Pinole required that yet another "geek", had to check it out. He insisted that it was just a loud hard drive, and I could go check the iunits on display and hear it. (Impossible because of the ambient noise in those places.) Anyway, the attiutude and unprofessionalism was absolutely astounding. I took my money back, less a re-stocking fee" of 15% - $172.50! (It was either that or literally punch somebody in the face, which would have cost way more money.) So - Best Buy got all that money and I got - ZIP.

 

The MO at Best Buy is that they get your money and hold on to it. Their staff is rude and poorly trained. I purchased another computer at Fry's and was told that I have 30 days to bring it in, no questions asked. I will NEVER step foot in a Best Buy again. At the very least, I intend to report them to whatever state and local government entities might be interested. They are the absolute worst retailers I have ever encountered, and I honestly believe that they have to be breaking some consumer protection laws.
