CenturyTel DSL service and tech support

CenturyTel is definitely the most non-responsive company I have ever

dealt with. I've had accounts with ATT, Quest, PacBell, and Sprint,

and CenturyTel is EASILY the worst in terms of customer service.

Their lack of response and their indifference to their customers is

amazing to me, and a true customer nightmare to experience.

My latest problem with them just occurred today. Seems that someone

in the main office flipped a switch and changed some of my account

settings for email, as my email account is down. I'm savvy enough to

know how to check things on my end, and have tested and retested

everything to make sure its not a problem with either of my computers.

I called CenturyTel customer support, and waited on the line for over

an hour on hold. Finally, feeling as I'd had enough of their non-

responsive abuse, I logged onto the web to the CenturyTel chat where

the recording assured me that I could chat live with a CenturyTel DSL

tech support person.

Upon logging in I found that I was number 87 in the queue !

I finally got ahold of a CenturyTel DSL rep on the phone, and she

told me that the company had moved over to a new email server system,

so they had many customer complaints that day. They hadn't sent me an

email that they might "experience a temporary disruption of service"

or any indicator at all that their customer base might be

inconvenienced by this changeover.

After going through a number of rounds of changing settings in my

email client program, the email still doesn't work. She assured me

that it was a problem o their end and not within my computer (NO!

Really??). Furthermore, she stated that the situation would soon be

fixed, and that if it wasn't working for me by tomorrow, I should

call back.

After waiting in the online queue for two hours.....I finally got

hooked up with an online tech support guy "Mike", who seemed to be

working with other customers simultaneously, given his extremely slow

response to my typed responses to his questions. After changing

settings back and forth for 1/2 hour, he couldn't figure it out and

asked me to call the tech support voice line phone number!!!

Tommorrow I'll be calling Verizon to have FIOS installed in my house

so there won't be any need to be abused by the likes of CenturyTel

ever again.......
