AFNI Collection Agency / Verizon phone bill

On April 25, 2007, my husband received a collection notice in our P.O. Box from AFNI Collection Agency in Bloomington, IL., for a land line phone bill on a phone number that he has never heard of for $451.00 but said they would settle for half. When he called them to tell them they had made a mistake, they insisted that the billing information was correct and went on to tell him that the phone had been disconnected in the year 2000 and gave him a physical address where the phone was suppose to have been, that DOES NOT even EXIST. I looked up this company and found many complaints regarding the same thing done to many other people by this same company. We just wanted to warn people that they are still at the same scam which they have apparently been doing for a long time. We will send a certified letter to them letting them know the charges are not his, then file a complaint with our state Attorney General and the BBB then find out if they in-fact reported this phony collection to his credit and send letters to the agencies letting them know what the company tried to do.
