sears hearing aid center Good Afternoon: This complaint is in reference to Sears Hearing Aid Center at the Brass Mill Center Mall 425 Union St. in Waterbury CT 06706 Their phone number is 203-597-0490. Sears had advertised a hearing aid sale. My mother has a severe hearing loss. She is 78 years old. My father who is 80 years of age made an appointment for her within the sale period I believe around March 27th or 28th. After arriving to the appointment my father was ask to have my mother fill out a form of release of medical information. My father was not aware of the law regarding this and ask the receptionist for more detail. She was extremely rude and belittled him that he did not know about this and told him to read the sign on the wall. He did, and the form was signed. He then ask about the type of hearing aids available on sale and wanted to know about the adjustability and was told that they covered most types of hearing loss. My mother has a specific type of loss that she had already been tested for by a physician. My father realized that the hearing aid that was on sale would not work for my mother. My parents decided not to do the test because the hearing aid that was on sale would not work for her. My father would at that point not give the receptionist the release form since no test would be taking place and no sale would be made. My mother's signature releasing medical information to Sears Hearing Center was being refused by my parents. At that point they just wanted to go home. The receptionist told him he was no longer entitled to that form, my dad refused to give it back. The receptionist threatened to call security. So my dad said O.K. if you must, I will sit here until they come. The audiologist heard all this commotion and my dad tore the section of the release with my mother's signature on it. The receptionist began bagering my father even further continuing to threaten him with a security call. My parents were treated so badly at this appointment that was only set up to make a hearing aid inquiry that they were ALLOWED to leave Sears shaken, mistreated, belittled and upset. IS THIS HOW SEARS TREATS THE ELDERLY? Kind and patient explainations when dealing with potential custmers of advancing age would have been more appropriate. My family has been doing business with sears for over 50 years and this is how they are treated.
