uhaul I've rented uhauls for many years with the kind of business I'm in. I'm not new to the routine. I had a uhaul reservation for 8-30-06. The truck was a one way rental from Dom's Gulf, 500 Mcneilly Rd. Pittsburgh, PA 15226 phone 412-561-9672. I arrived at his location shortly after 11am. The owner was rude from the moment I stepped out of my van. He didn't like where I parked and told me to park my van at the far end of his driveway, so I did. I walked into the office with my driver and told the owner I had a 14ft truck reserved for one way back to Ashtabula, Ohio. He said give me your credit card and driver's license. I handed them to him and I told him that I prefer to pay cash for the rental as I have done routinely. I was more than prepared to pay any security deposit if required but in most instances just a credit card for reservation is enough. He said, and I quote, "LADY, I DON'T TAKE CASH, you either pay the whole thing on your credit card which includes all rental fees plus $150 security deposit or the truck doesn't move off the lot!" To say the least, I was Flabbergasted! I said to him that I had rented a uhaul just a few weeks prior at Babco Fabricating, Oakdale, Pa 724-693-0108 and they had no problem with me paying CASH and no deposit, they only used the credit card for reservation. He then said, "LADY, I've been in this business for 10 years and the rules are the rules, I'm NOT CHANGING THEM FOR YOU, I DON'T TAKE CASH"! At first I said, well then go ahead and run the card as I stood shaking my head in disbelief and then I decided that as a customer I DID NOT appreciate the way he treated me nor did I deserve it! So, I told him to hand back my credit card and license and told him to keep his truck and quite frankly as I walked out the door I told him he was a real ******* I don't use that word loosely! A man sitting in the chair said, well that's the second one today...meaning what..that he treated someone else like crap and they too walked out? For the life of me how in the world can UHAUL afford to let someone like him rent trucks for them. I am a business owner and over the years I have rented many trucks from UHAUL but Wednesday was a fiasco. I have to preplan every thing I do. I had to make several special arrangements with my workers so we could all travel the same day. I had The Salvation Army coming to the location I was at for a donation pick-up, and of course I picked a day that I could close my business to make this trip to Imperial/Pittsburgh area. This COST money and time! It will now cost me another trip down there to finish my job which should of been done, BUT because your UHAUL dealer doesn't take OUR OWN USA AMERICAN CURRENCY I GOT SCREWED. Call your own 1-800-442-8021 phone number and listen to the recording,it clearly states that you gladly accept personal check, CASH, or credit card as a form of payment. Does this man not know your own rules? My first is suggestion get him off your map! He makes your business look bad.
Now, I did speak with Robert from Uhaul the day of this incident at your 1-800 number and told him about my problems with his dealer. He aploigized for his behavior and said, what, he wouldn't take cash? He too was shocked. He did tell me he would try to find me another truck. He eventually called back and told me that a truck was "suppose" to be available at another location at 4pm that afternoon. He gave me a phone number to a South Park Road dealer. I phoned this dealer, asked about a truck, he had one so I asked for directions from where I was to where he was. This dealers directions were so outrageous no one in their right mind could follow them. His directions did not include street names but I was trying to write down what he was saying and this pretty much sums it up; "well, get on the freeway and go one exit, can't remember the name of it, ya need to go under route 22, now go under it, then go up this steep hill, bear left, then take a quick right, stop at the sign, make a left, go across those railroad tracks, go two blocks, you'll hit the town of Presto, go around the bend, the road will zig zag...blah blah blah, he went on like this for five minutes. I said wait, do you have any street names? Nope, I'm trying to give you landmarks, don't know the street names. For crying out loud, I'm from out of town, I know nothing about the area, I was ready to pull my hair out! I had no idea where he was but he told me it would take me until 6pm to find him. With that i said, forget it, I'm done. I came home. Now, I still need a truck. I need to go back to Imperial/Pittsburgh PA. before the end of this week. Last Wednesday should of been my last trip. It wasn't. Who's at fault? The guy who wouldn't take our own USA AMERICAN CASH and was rude and arrogant, or me for not putting up with him? I have tried to contact Uhaul again about this but have yet to hear anything back from them. I would like to hear back from UHAUL regarding this issue. Some kind of compensation needs to be made. I would like this email forwarded to www.uhaul.com Debbie From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Monday, 04-Sep-06 07:17:19 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This |
