Sony Viao PCG K-13

Sony Viao PCG K-13 Hi, I had purchased a Sony Viao PCG K-13 notebook in june 2004, I was completely happy with my purchase till Jan 05, when I lost the display of the machine completely, I contacted sony and was advised to send the machine to them and it was fixed as it was under warranty. By November 05, the display started to give me trouble again, when I contacted sony I was told that they had replaced the LCD Panel of the machine in Jan, and that now the machine was out of warranty and I would be paying the repair charges, which would amount ot about $800.00, which I felt was too much and that the situation was not so bad and I could still use the same machine, with difficulty but yes I could do it. By March 06 I completely lost the display of the system I again contacted Sony and was given the same story. I was to be charged $800.00 for the repair, I decide to upgrade my system instead, and tried the trade in feature that Sonystyle.com offered, the system was valued at $247.00 provided it was in perfect working condition. My complaint here is that if the machine's value in good working condition is only $247.00 then how is it justified that I spend the $800.00 to get it fixed, and that once it is done the value of the machine does not rise, and if I do not get it fixed, the trade in value decreases, from the way I can calculate, I would have spent $553.00 to dispose of it (800-247), plus whatever the new machine would have costed me. Secondly they wanted $20.00, for support on the phone. I explained this to Sony, although they were very understanding, but they could do nothing to rectify this situation, also if the LCD Panel had been replaced should they not be giving an extended warranty on the same. That did not seem like support at all Meanwhile a collegues Machine a 6 year old Dell, suffered a mother board crash. Dell replaced the whole machine for no charges. Guess what I was going to buy another Sony Viao, but turned around and bought a Dell XPX M1210 instead. Dell is a company that stands behind its product. Sony is excessivly too large to handle any problems, they do not care for their customers, and I am sorry to have been a loyal customer to them. To all you people who are thinking to buy computer from Sony, I suggest that you don't, go for a Dell, Machines are far too superior than Sony. Customer support is ouststanding. One more thing, duing the customer support I requested them for their corporate office's address, they refused to give it to me, as I had told them that I would be complaing directly to some authority. I am too frustated with sony, and would request someone to kindly take some action against, this duping of consumers. Awaiting a response. Suresh Sadhwani V.I.
