To Whom It May Concern:

I was contacted by Century III Chevrolet last Friday, September 22nd after responding to a mailing. I explained to the salesman, Dennis Boehm, that I did not think that I had the credit to purchase the car I wanted and did not want to waste my time or his. He suggested that we run a credit application over the phone.

I visited the dealership. As we were working out a deal for my trade and the payment I wanted, they had me sign another credit application, and submitted it to the finance department. Afterwards the entire process continued as if everything was fine and I would be financed through GMAC. I came back the next day to finalize a deal, and the process was no different, my salesman Dennis, worked with a more senior salesman to close my sale. After agreeing to the sale, the salesman announced over the showroom PA system that everyone should congratulate Stefan on the purchase of a new 07 Trailblazer. EVERYONE CLAPPED and CHEERED! I could not have been happier!

After waiting, Dennis (the salesman) returned and told me that my credit application was declined. I was very surprised and so was he. We, the salesmen and I, were lead to believe that the deal was done. What I found was that the process of running my credit application earlier was just the Sales / Finance manager looking at my credit report and assuming that everything was fine. He gave everyone the impression that credit was taken care of. Hey, they even announced the sale to the entire showroom.

My salesman asked if I would like to speak to management. The sales manager didn’t even give me the courtesy of getting out of his chair and coming over to me. I went to his desk. The sales manager Denis Kufner told me that he thought everything was fine based on his review of my credit report. He said that he had seen worse that got approved through GMAC. At this point I was incredibly upset. Yet my words were calm and chosen carefully. Additionally, another man sitting behind him attempted to explain that nobody was interested in misleading me… blah blah blah. I explained that their practices were misleading and implied that I was approved!

I explained that I was concerned about creditworthiness in the beginning, and encouraged my salesman to determine what could be done for me ahead of time so that neither of us would waste our valuable time. Your dealerships management has a very misleading practice of making assumptions and passing it off with actions that made me and their sales staffs think that everything was fine. Remember, both salesmen working with me went along as if this was a done deal!

I was completely insulted and embarrassed. It’s as if they put me on a pedestal, and when it didn’t work out, they said “oops”! The conduct of management at this dealership was misleading, unprofessional, and unethical!

I had no intention of wasting their time, yet in the end, my time was wasted. I will purchase a new car soon! The question is, “Will it be a Chevrolet”?

Regards,

Stefan Wynn Jones
