Circuit City, Greenville, SC

I needed a new modem for my computer and went to Circuit City. The associate there recommended one to me and said if it didn't work to bring it back. Well, it didn't, and I did, the very same day. You guessed it, they charged me a $15.00 restocking fee on the $100.00 modem. That happened 12 years ago and I have not made a purchase from them since. Circuit City has lost out on a lot of my personal purchases over the years. Laptops, desk tops, to mention a few of the ton of electronics I have bought. As a buyer for a local company I also steered our local purchases to their competition. Numerous emails to Circuit City have either gone unanswered or come back with a canned reply thanking me for contacting them!

On the flip side of the coin, I have had some really good experiences.

A similar problem at a RadioShack ended with my money being cheerfully refunded be an associate. No manager involvement was necessary.

I purchased two Western Digital hard drives from Best Buy that had a $75.00 manufacture's rebate on each. After a six month struggle with Western Digital I still had not received the rebate. So I phoned the manager at the Best Buy where I made the purchase and he asked me to bring the paperwork for him to review. Upon meeting with him, he looked everything over and promptly took me to customer service where they gave me the $150.00 rebate in cash. Yes, the wife and I did spend most of it before leaving!!

With 5 RadioShacks, a Best Buy and CompUSA within 7 miles of my home, I don't need a Circuit City. I hope they enjoyed my 15 bucks!
