I purchased an audiovox portable DVD player model D1708 several months ago at a local PC Richard in NJ. It didn't work, so I returned it and they replaced it. This one worked for just long enough to no longer be covered by the 3-month warrantee. Now, I've had a bad experience with this PC Richard in the past. I bought a moderately large TV some years back. At the store, when it was brought out, I questioned whether the carton had been opened, it just had the appearance of possibly having been opened. The salesman assured me that it hadn't been opened, it was just as it had been packed at the factory. When I got it home and opened it, the carton was filled with dust, there was a thick layer of dust on the bottom and coating the TV. Even as I brought it back for my money back (I didn't want another one at this point), they insisted it was as it came from the factory. Now, after this experience, and now the DVD player problem above, it makes me wonder if the 2 DVD units had been "refurbished" and sold as new. I called Audiovox and they said they have no way of knowing (and I have no way of knowing) if the unit I have has been refurbished. Well . . . what happened to the first defective unit I returned to PC Richard? Will it be refurbished and possibly sold as new? In any event, I'll never make another purchase at PC Richard. And, for that matter, I'll never buy an Audiovox anything again.
