Sub: NOKIA “DIS-CONNECTING PEOPLE”.

I purchased a Nokia Mobile phone 3230 handset through the Nokia outlet “Global Telecom” located at Shop No 9, Apsara Bldg Sector 1, Vashi, Navi Mumbai 400703 on 22nd December 2005. Barely a month had passed and my mobile developed transmission & display problems. It would switch off automatically, thereby rendering the handset non-functional. The mobile handset was given for repairs to the dealer on 15th July 2006 vide service job sheet No: 5300084898 and was returned on the 3rd of August 2006 without carrying out any repairs on the mobile. On the contrary the handset looked like an old junky apparently due to bad handling on the part of Nokia’s service care centre.

The same handset was again handed on 3rd August 2006 vide service job sheet No: 5300091600. I regret to inform that till date (a period of 3 months); I have not been given possession of my handset. Even a replacement handset of the same or a higher version has not been provided although the mobile handset is still covered under warranty. Complaints have also been posted on Nokia’s website, and a complaint registered vide no: 2-1 FLO7N. I have been taking up this issue on a daily basis both on the internet and in person by phone and the company’s replies are stereotype and hackneyed stating that their Executive would be contacting me within 12 hours which never happens.

I am a Sr.Research Fellow at Advanced Center for treatment research and education in Cancer (ACTREC) a department of Tata Memorial Center at Kharghar and my nature of work involves constant interaction with my faculty, peers, fellow research scholars and other research oriented bodies. But with the poor deficient service meted out by the errant company, I am handicapped in staying connected with like minded organization and suggest the company to change its tag line to “ NOKIA DIS-CONNECTING PEOPLE”.

It would be worthwhile mentioning that Nokia’s monopoly as a market dealer is fast depleting as will be evident by the number of complaints posted on the website. The other mobile manufacturers like Sony-Ericsson, LG, Samsung are moving on a fast track with more efficient service to customers and it’s about time that these players will give Nokia a run for its money and consign it to the dustbin of history.

Thanking you
