Rogers Cable High Speed Internet connection

Rogers Cable High Speed Internet connection

Rogers Cable is supposed to be my High Speed Internet Provider - I've noticed from time to time, in the past 6 months that they have arbitrarily denied all access to Microsoft Internet Explorer.

On Thursday August 31, 2006, just as I was trying to pay my rent on-line, Rogers

shut down all access to Microsoft Internet Explorer. I was in a panic! I didn't know

if my rent payment had gone through. I couldn't bring up my bank records to see if

the money had been removed from my bank account.

When I called Rogers I was told that it was my Belkin Router that caused the problem. I immediately dialed Belkin in the Phillip pines and was rerouted to Belkin

in San Diego, California. (I should state I was phoning from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.) I quickly explained the problem and stressed that I was in a panic

because of the money involved and especially because it was my rent payment.

Belkin stated that they have been FLOODED with telephone calls from Rogers

customers in Southern Ontario, Canada, who all have been shut out of the internet

by Rogers Cable. Each time Rogers has blamed Belkin but they assured me that

there was no problem with my Belkin Router. It was still working properly and because it was less than 9 months old, and had worked properly during the 9 months

that I was using it, it was not defective. They stated that Rogers Cable and NO ONE

else was causing the problems.(Belkins Tel # 1-800-223-5546 Ext. 2263, to verify.)

I re-phoned Rogers and was bounced around from Dept. to Dept. Finally I asked to

speak to a supervisor but was told they HAVE NO SUPERVISORS. I was passed to

someone supposedly on the 3rd level. He admitted that "YES" they had shut me down and would continue to do so as long as I insisted using the Belkin Router for a

wireless connection. I was told to unplug my Belkin Router, throw it in the garbage and connect my cable line directly to my laptop, which would give me NO ACCESS

to move around with the laptop. He also said I could connect with another high speed internet provider, pay them each month for service, but because Rogers had me locked into a 2 year contract, they would ALSO charge me for high speed internet

service until the end of the 2 year contract, EVEN IF THEY CONTINUED TO STOP MY INTERNET CONNECTION. (MY CABLE & TELEPHONE ARE ALSO ON THAT

2 YEAR CONTRACT.) On Sept. 6th they sent me an email stating they would shut

me down and have permanently blocked all access to Microsoft Internet Explorer since.

Rogers has an internet connection (which I'm sure they want me to use, ) but their

internet page has NO REFRESH or any way to go back to the previous page, and many other LESS DESIRABLE FEATURES.

So for the next 2 years, while I'm locked into the Rogers contract, I have no way to

access Microsoft Internet Explorer. If you give me an address, I'll print out a copy of Rogers letter and mail it to you. (Don't ask me to send it over the internet because thanks to Rogers, I have NO WAY to send it. But I think it is important for your legal team to read this letter, which admits that they have the RIGHT TO DENY ACCESS to anyone, FOR AS LONG AS THEY WANT. .

We have Rogers high speed in our office in Toronto and one of our 6 computers had a virus that was discovered by ROGERS and on that basis they shut us down without advising us about this. Heavy handed tactics without the slightest bit of finesse whatsoever. After re-installing the virus software we had to beg them to reconnect us. They threatened us with permanent disconnect if that occurs again. Not very businesslike, reminds me of army bootcamp.
