I would like to file a complaint concerning the recent product recall issued by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, release # 07-003 involving a Sears Craftsman Snow Thrower plastic wheel rims, manufactured by MTD. The solution to the recall was for Sears / MTD to send pressure release valves to the owners to be installed. The problem with this solution is once the Pressure Release Valves are installed they stick out 1 5/8 of an inch from the wheel rim. When this snow thrower is used with the new Pressure Release Valves installed, with normal use this will cause more safety hazards due to the fact the new Pressure Release Valves stick out so far they will be sheared off causing the tires to lose all tire pressure. The sudden loss of tire pressure could cause potential injuries. This fix does nothing for the consumer, and only provides a cheap solution for Sears / MTD. IF Sears, MTD and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission was concerned for the consumer, they would require a replacement of the plastic rim to a metal rim. I have always purchased the Craftsman brand because of their product reliability, but the solution approved by Sears in this matter makes me question Sears commitment to the Craftsman Brand. There is no doubt this solution is so ridiculous that it cannot possible be used and your consumers will continue to be injured.
