WHIRLPOOL 2-DOOR NO FROST REF - ELECTRONIC TYPE ( a DEFECTIVE PRODUCT)

WHIRLPOOL 2-DOOR NO FROST REF - ELECTRONIC TYPE ( a DEFECTIVE PRODUCT)

To Readers (so you will be forewarned),

We bought the said Whirlpool Ref <Model: WBM39-14 IX STAINLESS /TOPMOUNT, 2-Door, 13.5 cu. ft. Electronic, No Frost Model> in 2002 for Php29,000.00, after being attracted to its nice appearance and supposedly "prestigious" brand name due to the good performance of its washing machine. However, we made the BIGGEST MISTAKE of buying their refrigerator.

After only 3 years, major repairs and parts replacement begin to hound us. First, the Defrost Heater was replaced in January 2006. According to the technician, what caused the breakdown was the lack of Automatic Voltage Regulator, so we bought a 1,000-KW AVR, as per the technician's advise.

After few months, same problem occurred, no cooling was observed because the defrost mechanism was not working. To cut on expenses, we were advised by another technician from Whirl-Tech to just manually defrost the ref every week.

Came June 2006, water dripped this time because of clogged drain outlet due to that defective defrost heater plus this time, defective Bimetal Defrost. According to the technician, we will experience this same problem every 3 months if we will not replace the twoi defective parts (so, what's new?).

Because of frustration, we went to the franchisee office on Oct 30, 2006 to "file a complaint" and to request them to double check our unit, just to validate the findings of their authorized service center, Whirl-tech Express Services Co..In fairness, their technician came and checked it out. To our surprise, his suggestion/recommendation, aside from buying the two "defective" parts, was for us to additionally purchase a new AVR (1,500 KW) since the one we have does not meet the capacity requirement of their product, when in fact the Whirl-tech technician who serviced it last January 2006, did recommend the AVR capacity we bought (1,000 KW).

If we will sum up all the expenses we incurred in the replacement of the parts, the cost of the AVR and regular repairs, we could have ended up having a brand new unit.

Ironically, my mother-in-law's old, cheap local brand "Hitachi" refrigerator, lasted for more than 20 years without so much major repairs.

Hope this letter reaches the manufacturers of Whirlpool products so they will know.
