OIL CHANGE at SEARS auto Center

OIL CHANGE at SEARS auto Center

Sears in Murfreesboro, TN on Old Fort Parkway.

On 11/1/06 I went to Sears for a tune up on my 2001 Nissan Sentra..they said that they don't do tuneups. I then asked for an oil change and air filter change on my car if needed..They sd ok and will be ready 30-45 mins. and will call me on my cell phone once ready. An hour later w/ no call..I went to the front desk and was informed that no only was it incomplete- but also the DIPSTICK HAD BROKEN into my car and they are "working on it".

Chris the superviser at that time sd another wait of an hour the car would be finished. After speaking w/ the mechanic they then sd that they would have to order another part for my car and the car would have to stay tomorrow-few days -really unknown. I could not believe it at first. Chris sd that a rent-a-car would be provided from Enterprise..I had to call Enterprise myself to tell them of the situation and ask them to stay open until I get there AFTER CALLING FOR A RIDE. Chris sd that everything would be taken care of. When I get there after store hrs, the manager at Enterprise lets me in and informed me that Sears did not call and needed my license and card to put on file. I received the car.

I went to Sears for an OIL CHANGE that a knowledgeable mechanic could complete in 15 mins and came out WITH no car!!

The next day I drove to work w/ the rental car and call Sears on my break. Chris sd that they had to order a manifold gasket for my car and also the dipstick. I inquired what was hapening w/ my car and Chris sd that he did not know that exact process bc he only supervises and is not the mechanic. I called the Nissan Dealership to see why Sears was messing w/ other parts of my car other than what is needed for an oil change. They informed me that the manifold gasket should not be messed with and to tell Sears to stop and try to get the broken dipstick out w/ a magnet, vaccum, pencil w/ super glue. When I called back to inform Chris, he sd it was too late and the parts are already being taken out and dismissed my alternatives that were given. I requested the service Manager. He was not in and I requested a cb w/i the hr. He called me back and left a message on my voicemail about returning my call, but no number was given for me to call him back. When asked for it- I was denied.

After calling about my car during the day- all I was told is that they are working on it and and they don't see a problem bc I have a rental car and would call me back once the car is ready. I advise Chris that I'm upset bc I dont have my car (I ONLY WENT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE) , they are giving me different/ incomplete information about what's going on w/ my car, and they still have not called Enterprise to put THEIR card on file for pmt.

I called the Complaints line for Sears (800-526-3682 and 877-878-3686) that day and also 11/3. I requested my car fixed, a second evaluation on the car to ensure safety, and rental car exp. paid for. After speaking w/ Derrick that store manager he sd he would pay for the car exp., but not the second evaluation and that only the oil pan was replace and the dipstick. I request his boss-Rodney and was informed of the same result.

After 2 days-48 hrs. my car was ready. I picked it up, but I am upset bc I believe that SEARS did something else to my car and not taking responsibily for it. It does not take 2 days for an oil change and Jim, Chris, and Derrick were all telling me something different. What happened to the Manifold gasket that Jim and Chris told me about? Derrick was only informed of what his workers told him and he does not know what happened. While picking up my car..there was another customer telling the front desk how they did not fixed the car as told..

I will send a correspondence to the Corporate office since the complaint line sd that all they could do was speak w/ the Manager..I will also have to get a diagnostic and pay for it myself.

My advice would be..NEVER go to SEARS for car troubles bc they will end up messing it up even more and you would discover more problems then what you came in for.

Thank you for the info. I knew a guy who worked in Sears Auto and he actually told me to never take my car there because they hire people who do not know what they are doing and really don't care about learning how to do it the correct way.

I am not surprised at all about the Sears service, but the comment above (he omitted his e-mail for a reason)should be taken out of the post. Obviously guy either works or worked at Sears, otherwise how in the world does he know that they do not do manifold gaskets. If he thinks that he can impressed someone with foul mouth, try you mother - mother.

Anything can happen - that is true, but giving a customer all bunch of runaround and not explain to him exactly what happen is unacceptable. I would be upset too and would file complaint as well, Sears needs to remember how they were disallowed to do brakes and front end repairs because of shady sales techniques.
