This happened to me in 1998, and I am still angry about the incident. I purchased a new Ford Explorer from Truck City in Aug. 1998. Prior to the purchase, the salesperson, Barry Temple, took me around the lot. We viewed a number of Ford Explorer Sports, the vehicle I was interested in. I decided that I wanted a black vehicle. Unfortunately, the one black Ford Explorer Sport that I chose did not have a side step bar, which was something that I wanted. I pointed out the side step bar on some of the other Ford Explorers that we viewed and told Mr. Temple that I really liked it. I liked the look of it, and I thought it would be necessary for me, as I am not very tall. Mr. Temple said that it was not a problem. I could purchase the vehicle that I liked, the one w/o the step bar, and Mr. Temple would order the step bar for me. He said we could install it a week or so after the purchase, when the part would be in. Great!
A week after taking possession of the vehicle, I'm told that the step bar is in. I'm told to go to a custom shop, and that they will install the step bar (it won't be done at the dealer). I go to the shop, and as I'm watching the installation, I notice that the step bar is not the one that I viewed on the other Ford Explorers. When I asked the man who worked at this custom shop about it, he said, "This is not the Ford step bar. Mr. Temple ordered a different step bar for your vehicle, a much cheaper step bar."
I said that there must be some mistake. I called Mr. Temple immediately. He said there was no mistake....that he never told me that the step bar he would order would be the "Ford" step bar that I viewed on the other vehicles.
I have never been involved in something so shady!!! Barry Temple refused to make good on the deal. He said that if I wanted the Ford step bar, I would have to pay the difference (some $200), which I eventually did.
This total lack of honesty and integrity is shameful. I will never buy another vehicle from Truck City again....and I have told everyone I know this story. My friends will never shop there, either.
