Complaint - NetSpend - Prepaid Visa Credit Card

On Oct. 12, my underage son purchased a prepaid Visa credit card from a NetSpend merchant (Express Payroll Advance 155, 5783 Cleveland Ave., Columbus, OH 43229).

When attempting to use his card, he found there was a lock on it most likely due to him being underage. We went to the merchant on October 18 to be reimbursed and had to call NetSpend from the merchant's office to give all the appropriate information for reimbursement. The credit card was also handed over to the merchant for destruction. NetSpend said they would send a check to my son.

We returned again to the merchant on Nov. 5 because no check was received. Spoke with NetSpend again on the phone (Mae was the person we spoke with). She gave us no satisfaction, only grief, telling us that a check was sent out on Oct. 18. When asked to speak with a supervisor, she would not transfer us, then she stated she did not know any supervisors' names, would not give us her last name or her employee number. The merchant was also on the phone with us and finally she transferred us and we were connected with a supervisor named Mirza (employee no. 2042). He seemed very competent and told us a check would be sent out and would definitely be received by us on Nov. 10.

We returned to the merchant again on Nov. 14 stating no check has been received. We were told by Billy (emp. no. 1716) to wait a few more days.

Today is Nov. 27 and we still do not have a $200 check. The merchant just throws up their hands saying they cannot do anything other than to call NetSpend. NetSpend does nothing but give empty promises and we are still out the $200. Is there anything we can do to get this resolved?

I have also filed a complaint with the Attorney General's office against NetSpend since NetSpend seems determined to not honor the money they owe us.

I would file a complaint with the BBB since they are BBB online certified. I had an incident with them as well regarding $800+ for unauthorized transactions, which they are supposed to reimburse me for. I had to file a complaint with the BBB.

I would like to know how to get a human voice. I used the card to purchase cell phones. They were back ordered and the money got kicked back to the card. During that time I deposited another $100.00 to the $107.00 already on the card. Now ATMs tell me I have the correct balance but NSF for withdrawal even though the phone purchsse was cancelled.

Lets use some degree of common sense people, shall we. For starters, you should know just by looking at NetSpends website, that they are a scam and a joke. NO ONE who is honest, is going to tell you that they have testimonials about how their card has changed and altered lives, much less improved credit. That should be your first warning that this is all a consumer rip-off. Anyone who tells a credit bureau that a prepaid card purchaser should have a improved credit history, is guilty of willful and intentional fraud. Prepaid is like paying cash in the first place. It just takes a little out at a time, until the balance is zero. There is no way in hell this can improve credit. If you believe it does, you are a fool. Second of all, how in hell can a prepaid card buyer possibly be sane, when they babble in testimonials about how their card has changed and altered their life? Did they have a life to begin with in the first place? Obviously not! What a joke NetSpend is, and, so are the idiots who are so lame and pathetic, that they pay someone to hold their money, until they spend it. How sad you losers are!

Netspend's website has been down a LOT. It appears a capacity problem. To check balance one must call on the phone and pay 50 cents fee. This problem will not be fixed anytime soon due to Capital One purchasing Netspend. We customers are ones carrying the water on this hose job.
