Home Depot carpet measuring and installation

Home Depot carpet measuring and installation

Home Depot carpet measuring and installation. I recently paid 50 dollars for home depot to come out and measure for new carpet. Now I use to sell carpet and know a little about measuring and laying the product. When they called and told me the square yardage required I said fine and then we started shopping for the carpet we wanted installed at the store. Now I had some trepidation about the yardage but didn’t say anything right away. When I sat down with the salesman I asked to see the measuring report. He was a bit hesitant but I said hey I paid for it I want a copy and was given one. I went home and checked their work. To my surprise they were way off as much as 8 square yards upstairs and around 10 for the living room and bedrooms down plus 1 square yard for vinyl in the kitchen not to mention that in the kitchen they wanted to add a new sub floor over the vinyl I had, which is in very good condition and according to a manager at Home Depot and Armstrong’s website laying vinyl over one layer of vinyl is one of the recommended installation methods from the manufacturer and of course that added cost boosted the installation to more than the cost of the vinyl. When I told the measurer that I was told at the store it could be laid over the existing vinyl and that the manufacturer also recommends it he said well we don’t do that. Add it all up and it is over $500 of waste plus at least a few hundred dollars for the unnecessary sub floor install. After talking to the salesman he could offer no resolution so then he went to the dept. head and he said they would knock off 100 dollars. Well now that isn’t good enough anymore. I’ve been selling real estate for a living for over 20 years and I used to recommend Home Depot for carpet installation to all my clients and I feel they let me down. If they are taking me for over $500 how much did they take my clients for? So I contacted one of the stores managers and she said she would be willing to have another person come out and measure it again for me. I said ok and waited for them to call and come out. The person who came out was nice but in the course of measuring mentioned that home depot requires them to add 6 inches to length and width when they measure. Now I know carpet and you should never need more then 3 inches on length. The width of the rooms I was going to put carpet in was less than 12 feet so there shouldn’t have been any added for that. She said she would try to put it in with the 3in I requested but told me that they probably would reject her measuring. Well it’s been almost a week with no call back. I have checked with other carpet stores in the area and will probably purchase through them. (and they all add just 3 inches to the length only when they measure go figure) I was an avid Home Depot shopper having spent over $6000 this year alone but guess what for a few hundred of dollars in carpet they lost a customer forever. I hope everyone out there will double check anytime you have them measure and don’t get taken advantage of.

They tried to rip me off by measuring 23 sq. yards for a set of stairs that was 14 sq. yards and by adding a $201 stair install charge to the $97 whole house install. Their measuring company MeasureComp was in on the fraud and when I declined the install and asked for the notes on the measurement they refused.

Their both scumbags.

We Also had a HORRIBLE experience with HD... the problem was with HD- we had a dispute with the installer and went to Home Depot... they refused to give me the managers direct line, and all in all it took about 2 month from the time they started to the time they finished. Worst 2600.00 i ever spent... the carpet was good and installation good.. but Home Depot in Forest Lake MN was the WORST

We also had a very bad experience with a (Las Vegas) Home Depot carpet installer. It took THREE WEEKS and three trips back to Home Depot to complain for the installer to even get to my house for the initial measuring (I had already paid and could not get a refund). Then ANOTHER 3 weeks for them to install this carpet! The pad was fine (only two years old) but I was "required" to purchase a new one or they would not install. I could have gotten it way cheaper and MUCH faster through a local flooring store. I will NEVER get any kind of flooring through Home Depot again.
