Sub: Broadband connection in IT city Bangalore
Even though Bangalore is considered the IT city of India, the broadband service is abysmal. The broadband Internet connection of 256kbps from Hathway was slower than dial-up connection. The only service that works is billing, which works fine, even though connection was not given. Getting deposits back is another story and requires immense persuasive powers from a customer.
My broadband connection saga. 1) The money for the new broadband connection with Hathway was paid by cheque on the 8th and 9th of august 2006. I was told that the connection would be given within 07 working days. The details of the payment is as follows 2) Receipt no 6864 : Rs 1678 vide HSBC cheque no 220203 dated 08/08/06 for Freeway regular + Registration + 12.24% tax. 3) Receipt no 6865 : Rs 1000 vide HSBC cheque no 220204 dated 09/08/06 for modem deposit. 4) After several calls to customer service the modem and cable was placed in my residence on the 20th of august 2006. I was told that connection to the Internet would take place within 30 minutes by tech. engineer Mr. Samuel. I was not getting my connection to the Internet because of some server problem. 5) After several enquiries and complaints I was given my connection on the 31st August. 6) On the 27th August 2006 I receive an advance bill from billing department, billing me from the 20th of august 2006 to 31st of August whereas I had not yet received the connection and also Rs.500 was charged for registration, which I had already paid for, by cheque on the 8th August. I spoke to billing department and was assured that it would be rectified. 7) On the 4th of September I receive another bill from Hathway, This time the bill was from 20th to the 31st of August with Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 added for registration and modem deposit which was already paid for by cheque on the 8th and 9th of August. 8) 5th September evening the connectivity goes off. 9) 6th September I again speak to customer care and billing with the connectivity issue and billing problems. I was asked to send a mail to billing department. No action was taken. 10) Spoke to Mr. Satish, Manager at helpdesk and was asked to forward the mail sent to billing department to the helpdesk addressed to him. No one responded. 11) 9th September I get connectivity but with a speed of less than 4kb. 12) 10th September the connection goes off again. 13) 11th September I receive another bill from hathway asking me to pay Rs 3038/ towards current charge of Rs.1116.79/- and pending amount of Rs 1921.21/ 14) I have been complaining since then to hathway helpdesk and customer service for my connectivity and speed. With only empty assurance from their side my problem had not been resolved till 11th October 2006. on 12th October I sent a mail to the billing, customer service and helpdesk requesting for a disconnection and refunding of my entire money including registration, advance rental and the modem deposit since they were not able to provide me with the services they had promised even after nearly 2 months. 15) So far no action has been taken and my saga with hathway still continues. I receive a bill for Rs.5272 on 7th November though I have asked for cancellation of my account in the month of October.
I would like to bring this out to the residents of Bangalore and I am sure there are many more people like me who are being harassed by these broadband service providers. Is there no one to put them on the right track and help us to get justice?
